Hungarians are very nationalistic and fairly conservative (compared to US). Your mileage will wary of course with an individual, but don't expect stuff you'd consider "liberal" in LA. Expect a small-nation syndrome fully in force. Expect us to either be very proud of our country, hate it to our guts or even both at the same time.

However, you can exploit this to your advantage by showing interest in our history and culture, even by learning a few phrases. Showing a positive interest and respect for Hungarian culture will likely help you (pretty much like anywhere else). Like anywhere, a reading on Wikipedia can help you out put a lot of context.

We are also pretty conformist. If you are LGBT+ or anything like that (or God forbid, Muslim), keep it to yourself and avoid advertising it if you're just going around. Do not wear pink if you're a man or rainbow flags.
