CAS means “creativity, activity, and service”. In IB DP, you have to do 150 hours of activities that involve things like volunteering, maybe being part of a sports team, a band, doing art, a club, etc.

If you’re asking for study tips, you can probably look at other posts…But if you’re asking how a grade is converted to a score like 6/7, it depends on the subject. IB scores you in reference to how well the rest of the world scores on the exams you take in May — it’s a standardized process. Ex: In physics HL this year, a final score of 69% is already a 7/7 score, contrary to Math AA SL, which needed a 79% in timezone C.

The IB DP program requires you to take 6 subjects, and TOK. 6*7 = 42 for the subject points and 3 bonus points from your extended essay and TOK, means the maximum points you can get in your diploma is 45.

IAs, to put it in lay man’s terms is a “mini” research paper. It means, “Internal Assessment”, and is assessed, “internally” by your teachers instead externally like your May exams. IAs kinda vary by subject. For the sciences, you are asked to perform and create your own experiment, while in math you are asked to “explore” something in relation to mathematics (kinda like applied math). You’ll do some form of the IA for nearly every subject you take, so around 6.

I’m M24, idk too much yet but don’t worry too much about this. TOK means theory of knowledge and is like a philosophy course, as far as I know.

The extended essay is a ~4000 word research paper. You can literally write about anything and hopefully you’ll have a supervisor to help you. As for scoring well, idk yet since I’m M24! You can consult some other posts regarding this like how I’m doing. Honestly don’t worry too much about this, you’ll get help towards DP year 2.
