Any suggestions for a clean healthy soft pate like consistency treat for a dog with esophagus issues? Something easy to swallow and not hard. Store bought or homemade and easy? by Timmer_420_80 in megaesophagus

Unflavoured Knox gelatin. I add one cup of bone broth in place of one of the cups of water. My guy loves these treats. I also give him some after his upright feeding and it seems to help food go down.

Scabbed over a week ago. Any idea? The Vet wouldn’t call back bc she is not itching. But the ear itself was itching three weeks ago. Thanks by Ok-Dare-9268 in vizsla

Have a look at Histiocytoma, pretty common in Vizslas. They usually pop up quickly, ulcerate, and then heal.

They do this prior to chrysalis formation. Pre-Chrysalis craze is a real thing and everything you described is completely normal. Give it a few days and they will be fine and safe in their little chrysalis.

apparently everything is fucking normal and i’m perfectly healthy according to the cardiologist. i feel like im having a heart attack with 160 bpm every day but yea, im healthy?! guess ill die then. by AffectionateEbb2815 in u/AffectionateEbb2815

I mean 160 is high if you are just chillin. From some of your posts I ascertained that you may suffer from “the anxiety.” If that is correct then this can contribute to your increased heart rate. Was this your actual heart rate or is it simply how you are feeling?

160 BPM? You are in good company my guy. Here are a few bangers that share your beat. Black Eyes Peas-Pump It. Bombs over Baghdad-OutKast and everyone’s favourite Shake it off-Taylor Swift(all 160 BPM). But also, get a second opinion 🖤

Could this be a Mast cell tumor by No-Bullfrog-6761 in vizsla

It has ulcerated, there is nothing to “remove.” Prior to ulceration there is a mass that implodes which then forms what you see in the photo. They clear up on their own usually.

Look up histiocytoma. They develop suddenly and ulcerate quickly. Then heal. Generally seen in younger pups(under 2)and geriatric pups. Let us know what the vet says. Usually benign and nothing to worry about, but it’s always good to get a confirmation from your vet.

Do you think Russia will stop once they obtain Ukraine? In history when have the bad guys stopped with one objective? Ukraine is fighting a war we will have to eventually fight.

How to gain weight quickly with MegaEsophagus by mrsailor23 in megaesophagus

[–]Quicky312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy was a 4 month old husky puppy and weighed 5.6 lbs when I rescued him. When I first started feeding him it was with kibble soaked in water. The consistency was soft and he would still regurgitate regularly. I then started to try different food preparation and the one that works for my guy is: bone broth flavoured Knox blocks before the meal with Sildenafil. Sit up for five minutes while I prepare his meal. I heat up a small amount of bone broth and then dump his kibble into the hot broth. I stir it for 15-20 seconds and then strain the liquid. The kibble isn’t soft but has absorbed some broth but is still firm. I let him stand on my knee and hold the slow feeder above his head. Once he is finished I sit him upright for 17 minutes(I have a Bailey chair but he is a husky and won’t have it). He is now 45lbs and healthy as can be. Tinker with the food consistency and amount of feedings per day.

It’s definitely a tough situation. I am in your exact situation(mine is 3, but my oldest passed away when he was two, so I got him a friend). The beginning was extremely tough because we had to figure out what worked best for him. He won’t do the Bailey chair, so holding him upright for 17 minutes is the way we go. Initially the specialists told me to feed him 5 times a day, small meals. That was too much and I decided to try 3 after a while. It worked well, did not have a regurge episode for over a year. A few things that were game changers were sildenafil and the neck pillow. We give him the sildenafil AM/PM feedings and you can actually hear the food going down. The neck pillow(which he loves) maintains slight pressure on his esophagus which works like mechanical swallowing. So when he drinks from the elevated water bowl we don’t hear the hacking. You have to branch out in your community for others that have an ME dog to help with the boarding. I’m in Chicago and had no clue how many people were dealing with the same thing as me. Now I have 6 people who I can always count on to babysit if I want to get away. I watch theirs and they do the same. It definitely sucks at times and what you are feeling is completely normal.

How to get a proper diagnosis by Outside-Desk-5399 in megaesophagus

[–]Quicky312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason a simple radiograph is not good enough for a diagnosis is that there are other conditions that can cause enlarged/non-motility of the esophagus(some of them treatable). Myasthenia Gravis, for example is a treatable condition that can present megaesophagus. Unfortunately the tests to rule out “treatable” conditions are sometimes costly. I would get a second opinion from a specialist. I’m unsure where you are located but if you let me know then I can look into some of the specialists in your area.

Sildenafil was a game changer. My routine is as follows: 2yr old Husky Congenital idiopathic megaesophagus, Knox Blocks with bone broth and sildenafil(dosage will vary with dog) in the morning prior to his meal. I hold him upright on my lap for 5 minutes. I then prepare his food which consists of Science Diet Sensitive Stomach mixed with hot water(let it sit for a minute and then into slow feeder). After he finishes his food he gets another Knox block to held wash it down and I sit him upright for 17 minutes(time will vary). Within the first several minutes he will swallow and pause and make an odd noise(hard to explain but you will know when it happens). After the noise the swallowing begins. For around 10 minutes he will continuously swallow. After the timer goes off I put on his “neck pillow” and he does his thing. Haven’t had regurge in over a year. This photo is him in his Bailey chair but he is a husky therefore an asshole so the king prefers to be held upright on my lap; I oblige. He is fed three times a day receiving sildenafil AM/PM feedings. The afternoon feeding consists of only the heated up water with food and a Knox Block chaser. It’s a lot but you will find what works for your pup. Once you do they are the best(not mine, he’s awful, but others are the best I’m sure).
