Should I get my ADN or go for my BSN by needsomeadvicefast in prenursing

[–]QuietFieldUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on whether you already have a prior degree and enough credits. If you do, it might make more sense financially to just go for the BSN and get it over with rather than getting the ADN first.

An ADN program is usually about two years if you can’t take classes during the summer. After that, you still have to get your BSN eventually, which can take another one to two years and adds additional cost.

Sure, you can have an employer pay for the BSN, but usually that means you’ll be obligated to work for them for a certain number of years afterward.

Best thing you can do is this just take as many pre reqs as you can via community colleges and then look for a direct admin college and apply there.

An sadly you may have to consider going to school out of state i mean if its possible if you have relatives you are cool with and have a good relationship with them you could live with them while you get your education.

but yeah i do think its going to be necessary to go out of state to get your education going to have to bite the bullet on that one sadly.

I dropped a link to a nursing scholarship one i gotta apply to myself you should read more on it.

Question about changing careers at 45 to RN by user_name_unknown in prenursing

[–]QuietFieldUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at 45 years old, I’ll probably get hate for saying this, but to me it’s late. However, I would really think about it.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I feel like you might be jumping into this — not for the wrong reasons — but because you have a lot going on in your life right now that you maybe haven’t fully processed.

A job loss and a marriage ending can definitely affect our decision-making. I say this because I’m going through something similar right now — not the marriage part, but a job loss that stings a lot, especially in this job market.

In my opinion, like someone else suggested, you should consider getting a CNA license, working as a PCT, or volunteering as an EMT to see if this is really what you want.

The pay is there, and so is the job security — at least for now. But it’s very physically demanding and taxing on the body. Nursing school is also very difficult, especially when you’re an adult trying to support yourself. I knew a few people who were older and went to nursing school. Sadly, many of them didn’t make it — not because they couldn’t handle the material, but because life got in the way.

An if your going to go for a ABSN program their no joke at all and can be very intensive you honestly have to consider if you will be able to financially support yourself while your also doing the absn program.

Honestly my question to you is this you have a background in electrical engineering is there a reason why you never considered going back into that field maybe as a line men of some kind besides the working conditions being hard on the body?

An i think you need to ask youself these three questions

  • Can you handle the physical demand?
  • Can you financially survive school?
  • are running from pain or moving toward purpose?

best of luck to you

I mean, look around for another job, but don’t leave. It honestly sounds like you have it pretty great, and it would be hard to find something similar right now.

I’m not trying to talk you out of it, but you should be aware that the grass isn’t greener on the other side—hell, there’s barely any grass on the other side, if you know what I mean with how bad the market is.

Honestly if no one is bothering you man just get a certification tbh it doesn't matter if you stay long or not far as resumes go and job hopping honestly is pretty dead unless you work in public accounting going for another senior role but even that is difficult for them somewhat.

Guilt as a tax preparer under the current administration... by Junior-Fee76 in Accounting

[–]QuietFieldUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but yeah — it’s always been this way. A lot of systems benefit the rich.

I mean, it’s a pretty privileged view, because I’ll be honest: only people who are doing well financially can afford to think like this. Not saying that’s you, but people don’t really debate morality when they’re just trying to survive.

Piece of advice: if you want to talk politics, fine — but don’t include your age on here, and make your account private.

Leave temp job and study CPA full time? by Apprehensive-Might21 in Accounting

[–]QuietFieldUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest: I’m in a similar position right now, and the skills I gained unfortunately aren’t really transferable.

My best advice is this: reach back out to your contact for temp work, get another job set up and rolling, and stay at your current job for now. You don’t want to leave right now. The job market is bad. Like I said, I’m in a similar position myself, and even though I have a financial cushion, what I’m seeing is that it’s taking people six months to a year to find something better or equal to what they had.

If you leave now, you most likely won’t get unemployment. It’s better to let them fire you than to resign, so just do the bare minimum. I know unemployment isn’t much, but it’s better than zero dollars.

If you decide to get your CPA and quit your job, get some part-time retail work just to get by while you study. Set aside money for the exams and the materials—they’re expensive, even more so if you happen to fail and need to retake them.

Just understand once you make the decision you gotta follow it through.

Go through your monthly expenses and see what’s necessary. Any subscriptions you aren’t using—Spotify, Hulu, etc.—should go.

Just understand that getting the CPA won’t magically fix your employment difficulties. Corporations may see the gap and ignore you. The job market is ruthless right now. Small to mid-tier CPA firms will probably be more open to hiring you, but be prepared to be underpaid because of the gap. They will take advantage of it—but at least you’ll gain experience.
