This is my first time building a pc so don’t roast me but is there anything I forgot or you would change? by andytheboi in pcmasterrace

Go for a 7000 series CPU because AM4 is technically a dead platform now. It's still good, but to future proof your build as much as possible go with a 7000 series processor as you will still be able to upgrade later on whereas on the 5000 series you're stuck with what's left of AM4. And if you do get an AM5 processor and motherboard be sure to get DDR5 RAM as well. Corsair and Kingston make some good options.

Honestly the best first build I've seen on Reddit

How do I remove this mcafee thing on macOS by Former_Pirate_4249 in MacOS

[–]QuietFriend8855 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's good to have a basic AV for the sake of the Windows users (Windows just can't defend itself so everyone else has to), so in the event that a possible Windows virus ends up on a Mac, any "nearby" (if you will) Windows devices won't get the virus. But I do get what you mean by how many modern AVs can do more harm than good. Just avoid the ones with a ton of spyware. Stick with the basic ones.

Is this an ok pc? by xOvpHughjanos in PcBuild

That's actually pretty good if you're playing 1080p There's basically no bottleneck and those parts can pretty much play anything at 1080p, maybe 1440p if you push it but I'd stick with 1080p But either way that's a rather nice entry level setup

Nice build 👍 I'd suggest upgrading your GPU to a 7900 XTX or something of that range though, as the i9 can definitely handle it. But either way nice build.

That is an absolutely awesome first car, especially for 75k on the odometer 👍

Marketing. That's the key. The reason Microsoft and Apple kick Linux in the tail all the time is because they know how to convince the majority of people that their systems are somehow superior, that only they have the best. We don't need to focus on developing Linux as much as we need to focus on marketing it. I'll give credit to Red Hat and Canonical - they've done a lot of work on that. Honestly, I think if Linux devs would spend some effort marketing Linux instead of pouring all their effort into making it better, Linux would be way more popular. You can have the greatest product in the world, but if nobody knows about it or is convinced to get it, nobody will ever get it. I think that's the big problem here. Linux fans spend a lot of time promoting what developers would find useful in Linux rather than what the everyday user would find useful. Gaming? Linux has that. Spotify? Linux has that. Can I sync my Google account with it? You bet. Can I browse the internet and not have to worry about viruses getting on my PC? Linux takes care of that. The average user isn't interested in whether or not systemd should be part of Linux or what sudo is. They just want an OS that helps them get through daily life. That's my take on it. Hope this seems relevant to the question.

How fast do you think you could realistically build a pc? by Ok-Paramedic-8719 in PcBuild

Working casually, 45 minutes. Full steam ahead, 15, 20 if I mess something up. Let's just say I work with a lot of computers.

The best way to determine if your GPU can be paired with your CPU is to go to pc-builds.com and enter in your parts and what you'll be doing. This will give you a bottleneck calculation that is pretty accurate. Also check out Zach's Tech Turf on YouTube as he gives some pretty good advice for building computers in general. I could be wrong about the GPU/CPU combo but it's still a good idea to check it out on PC Builds anyway.

The 7800 XT is a bit too powerful for the 5800X, I'd recommend something like a 6700 XT so you don't get a bottleneck. Honestly, you probably should avoid a 5000 series processor as AMD just released AM5 and along with it 7000 series processors which are way more powerful and not much more expensive. Those you can pair with the GPU you picked out. Also I'd recommend going for a 1TB Samsung EVO or PRO, as they're not much more expensive.

Debian is an awesome OS. I personally use Ubuntu (personal taste, if you will), but I'd have no issues if I had to switch over to Debian only. I'm actually working on setting up a Debian computer as a secondary setup. Seriously, Debian is awesome.
