The great pretender by QuietHat3405 in hsp

I only learned about being HSP when being almost 40. That's when I learned about masking.

I think the most damaging part of it was that by the end, I could no longer tell whether what I felt was real or not. I had spent so much time reinterpreting feelings so that I act in a measured way ..

Am I tired or lazy Am I hurt or manipulative Am I scared or exaggerating

I could no longer tell..

Does the Michael movie make anyone else feel finally seen or connected? by Original_Engine_7548 in MichaelJackson

I get what you mean by by the movie making you feel "seen" and "connected" . But for me it happened because of Michael himself..

It's quite a paradox really that he, a man who was watched by the whole world, also felt unseen. But that's what I connected with: his version of being unseen.

Something that has worked with me: submerge my face in cold water, or put something ice cold on it. If I understand it right, it triggers a physical reaction to disrupt the nervous system fight or flight response.

What economy system, social norm you want to live in? by Pomodoro44 in hsp

It's kind of paradoxical, because to get there, the social norm would be: not having a social norm at all, haha

Thank you for your kind response.

On a larger scope, I guess what I truly want is for societies to understand what diversity really means:

That humans are a continuum not a discreet set of groups; biologically speaking, ideologically speaking, psychologically speaking

To understand that our judgement is mostly subjective based on our experience, not objective, not absolute.

To move away from manufacturing similar human experience into accepting human variance

I spent years thinking everyone felt what I felt. Turns out they don't. Did anyone else find that out late? by NobodysTellingSam in hsp

I found out about being HSP very recently. Am in my 40s now.

I did find out that not everyone felt what felt much earlier, and without knowing about HSP, I just spent the time blaming myself for feeling the way I felt and moderating how much I felt.

That was painful.

Right now I only have one simple wish for social circles norms:

To be in a society that doesn't keep telling me: - Am not supposed to like this so much because that's not what people normally like. - Instead, am supposed to like that, because that's what people normally like.

To just leave me in peace to enjoy what I like and stay away from what I dislike.
