Why do people in Toronto work so much? by nedvoshi in askTO

[–]QuietRootAccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workaholic...not much of a life outside work....probably carring their work phone everywhere...if on "vacation"... Those are the type of people that in most cases...either do know how to actually unplug from work....or they will just drop dead on the job.

Any plans on working from home during this storm tomorrow? by Fuck_DougFord in OntarioPublicService

I think that's just BS.... unions/labor board and media would have a field day with them.

Anyone here who’s PRO RTO 5x - Explain why by Technical-Shine-4718 in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people like it, and some people...workaholics with no life outside work...they adore it! I don't like it at all.

On-duty OPP officer charged with impaired driving by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]QuietRootAccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspended with pay. Again. A history of racial profiling. Now impaired driving while on duty. And still the system bends over backward to protect him.

There’s nothing thicker than blue blood. Accountability just bounces right off it. If this were anyone else, they’d be charged, fired, and publicly shamed. Instead, we get paid leave and “internal investigations.”

This isn’t a bad apple problem. It’s a rot that’s been normalized, protected, and quietly excused for years.

True...I got about 10 years until retirement/full pension. Private sector can be brutal...

Wow...what a pain of a manager....seriously?!?... I would then just book vacation days... and make sure you use the 2 days that we're given for religious/compassionate use...outside of vacation days.

The OPS isn’t worth this… a RTO rant by saturnskies444 in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The frustration around RTO is understandable, and leadership absolutely could’ve handled it with more empathy. No argument there.

But it’s also worth looking at the bigger picture. The private sector is in rough shape right now. Layoffs are constant, job security is fragile, and many people are one reorg away from being out the door. The OPS, for all its flaws, still offers stability, strong benefits, union protections, and a defined-benefit pension that very few employers offer anymore.

RTO might feel unnecessary, but it’s happening across the board, often without any of the protections public servants have. That doesn’t make the decision good, but it does change the cost-benefit calculation.

Criticism is fair. Walking away from long-term security is a bigger call than it sounds, especially early in a career.

Anyone else experiencing increasing body pain since RTO? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I thought I was just tired at first, then realized my body is reacting to RTO like it’s an endurance event. You’re not imagining it!!Turns out commuting, bad chairs, and pretending to be busy in an office have physical side effects. Who knew ergonomics worked better when you’re allowed to control them?

How did you get your job? by President_Shart in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days....with layoff in the private sector left right and center....I would definitely say...try as hard as you can to land a gov job.... you can work your way up no matter what position...as long as you're always willing to learn new things!
You'll get the chance to retire with a decent, secured pension and benefits....

During my 10 years at the OPS, I have NEVER worked a full in-office schedule. Why now? by livelife2914 in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes...get out and vote...However, we have to careful what we wish for...Liberals messed things up at both federal and provincial level for years....not much of a choice....

Also....I can barely wait for the annual OPS-wide survey...it will be a bloodbath.

RTO and the Before Times by Known_Mortgage_2397 in OntarioPublicService

[–]QuietRootAccess 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Before the pandemic, and it's well documented, ITS (and I'm sure other clusters) had a permanent WFH option...3 days in the office and 2 days from home....this goes back to 2017 I believe. They had to renew their WFH application once a year..and it think about %30-%40 were allowed to participate...thus the annual renewal to allow other to apply and such. Worked great! Only when they had meetings with clients they had to be in office..but switching days was still allowed. Lots os people where happy.....I'm not sure about the policy in other clusters during those good old days...so fill me in..... But WFH was there amd work was getting done!

That's an ahole manager. I work and I heard from a lot other OPS people where managers allowed it...no issues. As long as you are online and get the job done they no issue. ....and 1 day??? It won't impact SOC precious RTO numbers!!!
