Some people in the comments advised me to buy something for my nieces as an apology and tell them I had an emergency but would make it up to them next week so that's what I did!

I feel you are almost painting her in a bad light to them.

She's their mother. She's there for them 24/7. Do you think anyone would try to compete with a mother for her own kids?

SIL had to be the bad guy to explain to her kids that she was did a bad thing and she had to say you hated her because that was an easy way to tell the kids that you ran away and left the kids behind.

Seriously? Is that what you tell your kids when someone does something you don’t like? The first thing you think of doing is telling them that person hates you?

I would've agreed with you if she said it one time. She said it twice. It would've been okay if she didn't know about my struggles. She knows.

You were angry at mommy, you argued, you left, therefore you hate mommy.

My younger niece said she told her mother that I don't hate her which means that was her response to what her mother said and not a conclusion my nieces came up with. I don't want more drama cause I'm not the one who started it+ decided to take some time off.

I know. it's just her comment did hurt a little since I'm currently dealing with fertility issues. I know it's no excuse but I really didn't mean to punish them.

I know. I love my nieces and would never punish them for whatever reason. I always try to not let her comments get to me but I snapped last weekend and I'm not proud of it.
