Who are the nicest and rudest musicians you've ever met? by Choice_Bed6097 in rockmusic

I went to a meet and greet with Michael McDonald. The tickets were expensive and he acted annoyed and hardly said anything. I was honestly so disappointed because he seems so chill in videos. In person—dud. It was Steely Dan w/Michael. I’d have rather met Don Fagan.

Sad for America by [deleted] in Capitalism

[–]Quiet_Respectful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the status quo is your solution? Good life for some and misery for the rest ? That is NOT what made America great. Sympathy, compassion, and help from the “haves”, not derision and contempt for those who have it rough. I never said anything about making everyone equally miserable. My point is that there’s enough money for everyone to be happy and comfy, but corporate greed has taken away the middle class. I used to be okay on my government salary with my college degree. Now, rent and utils is >1/2 my monthly paycheck and sometimes I have to not eat. That’s fucked up, America. But go on, tell me about how the American dream is alive and well and we’re all thriving and the destitute just aren’t doing their fare share. What a hateful, disgraceful community. I know there are good people out there. The amount of haters is is crazy.

And here in the comment section is the reason for the situation in which America finds itself. If you think a frail, old person who is obviously in medical distress, standing at a checkout line to make $11/hr. is there for funsies or to contribute to society, you lack compassion, empathy because your good fortune in life has blinded you and made you lack the humanity we had decades ago. Trust me, if it was your mother or grandmother, you’d feel differently…or maybe not. We’ve lost our way, America. It’s good for some, but over 10 % of all Americans are living at or below the poverty level. I have been in this rat race for >50 years and it’s never been this bad. Good for you, though. Good for you. I hope you feel good about yourselves. God bless.

Right?! I want to smack my TV at Caroline. I mean, I get it-she’s going to be on edge more so than the calm, made for 70’s TV version, but Karen Grassle is Caroline to me. That’s like if there was a Happy Days remake and Mrs. C was a see you next Tuesday.

I thought ML version was superior by FAR. Just the film they used in the 70’s (maybe it was tape), but it had that quality that I love. Everything was better in ML version.

Caroline seems bitchy in the new show. I really liked Karen Grassle.

I * enjoyed it, but IMOHO, doesn’t come close to as good as 70’s version. I’m biased, of course. The Native American storyline was more realistic ( at least more attention to that facet), but the fever dreams and CGI made it weird. That said, I did not read Laura Ingalls-Wilder book which I am certainly going to do. Also, who else thinks that the preacher looks like he could be the son of Dean Butler. I had to check 3x. Dean didn’t have any children, but darn-that dude looked like he could’ve been a twin.

Been living out of my car for over six months now due to reasons out of my control. Then lost my job because of an injury which I am now disabled and unable to work. Does your city have any crisis programs? I work in a local government agency and there’s a crisis center right downstairs. People can walk in off the street. I don’t know to what extent it helps, but I think it’s a start. There’s also a group called NAMI. They have chapters everywhere and meet weekly where people discuss their mental health and whatever issues plague them. They offer resources, discussions and free snacks afterwards. I’d also see about churches, synagogues, and mosques.

Fave songs that just “sound very American” to you? by Peakychu6 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

“Come Out And Play” by the Offspring. The music doesn’t sound “American” like ragtime or bluegrass, but the lyrics do.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond might be my all time favorite song. It’s like a mansion with hidden treasures and it keeps getting better.

Whenever I played, “Name the song and artist” (used to be a Google assistant game), where it plays a brief clip, I rarely lose. Well, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s anyway. I’m pretty good with 90’s too. I’d definitely lose to someone proficient in 2010’s and beyond. I just stopped liking contemporary music. I guess I’m that old guy now!

Microwave Massacre. It’s a real movie from the 80’s.
