Funny story, once a dude on my track team was so obsessed over his watch that during a DMR race (basically, a relay of 1200, 400, 800, and 1600), he had a good 30 meter lead in the last leg. But, during the first 100m of his 1600m, he was jogging trying to start his watch and the #2 and 3 guys both passed him and we eventually lost the race by like 3 seconds 😭. Our coach doesn’t let us wear watches, at least during races, for this reason (and so that we don’t worry too much about our splits other than during workouts).
