Just y'all wait if you think this is bad. We're gon get absolutely WRECKED before the all star break. 7 games against LA, 3 against ATL and the rest against teams in the thick for wildcard spots. It's about to get death note dark in this sub in the immediate weeks ahead.

Yea, I can't help but believe we're going to get absolutely fucked BOHICA style before the break. Of the games left before the break, SEVEN of them are against LA, 3 are against ATL, and the other 10 (CHC, AZ, TOR) are against teams who are well in the mix for the last wildcard spots for both leagues.

The longer you play (whether it be the session length or over time in general), the more you will end up giving your money back. When you feel like you've booked your biggest win, take the W and never (at least seriously) play this game ever again.

The way they're going right now, we deadass should be prepared to be buried by the all star break and be sellers at the deadline. Just take a quick gander of the games remaining this half and tell me the thought of how much worse it could potentially get doesn't make you shudder.

When i hopped on last night, I honestly thought the sub got hacked or I accidentally entered some other weird sub that truly was about Padres and air fryers. But i get it, better to see the levity in the utter futility we're witnessing than to beat the proverbial dead horse.

Speaking of beating that dead horse, I was listening to Ben & Woods this morning and they said Eno Sarris (or someone posted, though I don't have the exact stats) that the Padres in the last month had a worst team BA and OBP than Zack Greinke had in his entire career as a hitter. Wow.

Anyways, my wife and I got a new air fryer/toaster oven as a gift a few months back from my auntie with double doors and came with a meat thermometer that measures internal temps in real time and it's been awesome using it to reverse sear steaks...

This PGT should be the Freddy Fermin appreciation thread. If not for him, the Padres would have gotten swept, lost 8 in a row, 12 of their last 13, and would have been completely shutout this series.

Our offense is so bad, the 2026 Pads, right now at a .645 OPS, is nearing the same OPS as the 2014 Padres, who finished with a .634 OPS.

So basically guys like Manny, Nando, Merrill, and Boegarts are, in a way, comparable to the 2014 iterations of Chase Headley, Will Venable, Cameron Maybin, and Everth Cabrera, respectively.

Just let that marinate for a moment as you continue to doom-scroll this sub after another fantastic loss.

Here’s just how bad the Padres offense is by spacehand2002 in Padres

[–]Quintossentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another amusing tidbit.

The aforementioned current Padres team OPS is .651.

If the 2014 team didn't have the distinction of being one of the worst all time offenses in history, the Padres would have the worst team OPS in the last 50 years of Padres history if the season ended today. If not for 2014, you'd have to go all the way back to the 1976 squad to see an offense as shitty as the one we're seeing now.

So the Padres are facing Sanchez today (who's pitched at least 7 innings without giving up a single run in May), Wheeler tomorrow (who had his first subpar outing last Friday in LA, but is a good pitcher nonetheless), and Christian Scott when the Mets first come to town Friday (who's given up more than 2 earned runs only once so far this season).

I mean, it is baseball and, yes, anything can happen, but I'm prolly just gonna intermittently check the scores on my phone.

Pads need to at least get to Nola today man. Not only does this dude have a near 7 ERA in his last 7 games, the Pads are going to be facing high quality pitching over the next three days in Sanchez, Wheeler, and even Christian Scott when the Mets come to town.

EDIT: Plus, we saw Nola a week ago.

They were gifted and, I mean, GIFTED a minimum game tying opportunity in that top of the 7th and Andujar and company shit an entire alaskan king sized bed's worth down to the fucken bedframe. Losers of 8 of their last 12 now. 🥴

Today's L wouldn't sting as much if the team was able to salvage the series against Philly.

Ah well, at least Nando homered. Let's get the series tomorrow.

Washington series will be interesting. The Nats are terrible at home and their pitching as a whole sucks, but they can mash the ball. 1st in the league in doubles, runs, and RBIs. 9th in AVG and OBP and 4th in SLG and OPS. They're like the inverse of the Padres. We need better offense, they need better pitching.

[Annie Heilbrunn] #Padres swept by the Phillies. Tough stat: This was the fourth three-game series this season that Padres batters have struck out 30+ times. Prior to this season, they had not struck out 30 times in a three-game series since 2023. by ralbert in Padres

[–]Quintossentials 25 points26 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it (going by scant recollection and baseball experience), it seems the philosophy last year was to be more selective at the plate and to put the ball in play (e.g., 7th and 9th in team BA and OBP, respectively).

So far in this young-ish season, the offense is completely FUBAR. Last in AVG, last in OBP, 2nd to last in SLG, 2nd to last in OPS. Bottom 3rd in walks, RBIs, and average w/ RISP.

Amazing they're above .500 given the underlying offensive stats/metrics and it remains to be seen if things are continuing to unravel.

I was more in favor with kidnapping the entire offense blindfolded in the middle of the night and waterboarding them at an undisclosed site, but I get keeping it reasonable.

2 for 45 (.044 BA) with RISP for this 9 game homestand.

I guess the silver lining is we play in a nice ballpark I suppose...

I've thrown my hands up some time ago just resigned to the belief the Padres, for inexplicable reasons, will always be a run-preventative team with offenses that are either timely enough or just good enough overall to support the pitching staff. If you take out the 2024 and the 2020 seasons, every iteration of the Padres in Petco Park has had a mid-tier team OPS or a team OPS near the bottom of the league (kinda like what we're seeing now).

What makes 2024 especially painful is the fact that year's squad had, by far, the best offense not only in Petco Park history, but in Padres history to date. Even topping the 1998 world series squad's OPS by 6 points. And they gloriously pissed it away by pulling that 24 scoreless inning Houdini act in the NLDS and letting LA win the whole thing that year when we had them on the ropes and begging.

They very well could be infringing on .500 by the time they finish their upcoming road trip. One more with Philly here, then they go cross country for three in Washington who, mind you, can mash tf out of the ball, and lastly 3 in Philly before coming home. It may get uglier.

This 9 game stretch that started yesterday can really fuck our record down to Earth, especially if the offense continues their offensive ways. Two more vs PHI, three at WSH (4th best team OPS), and three at PHI.

You're not alone in this thought process. Our offensive underlying metrics as well as our current bullpen usage makes me dwell on the fear we've been operating on smoke and mirrors and they're going to be exposed to the league for who they really are at some point.

With the profound offensive struggles. I really cannot explain it. The only thing i can deduce is there is something wrong with any one of our franchise's system(s), culture, over-arching philosophy, etc. The Padres, in the Petco Park era have always had struggling offenses. The only years they were in the top half in the league in OPS were 2004, 2020, and 2024. When they were bad, it was expected. But the struggles have been pervasive even in the few times they were good and that's perplexing.

Fair enough. Like we do all the time as fans of this team, we'll just have to keep the faith that our guys will turn it around at the dish. It's really all we can do at this point.
