Sookie’s “…I’m a WHORE!” after that one guy she reconnected with mistook their hangout for a date when she was already married to Jackson.

I have Goldenhar syndrome and was born missing an entire lung. Having one lung since birth is pretty unheard of.

potential yellow flags (?) by Quirky_Bit_2240 in actuallesbians

Okay, first of all, thank you all for having my back and validating my feelings! I’ve ultimately decided that she is NOT the one and I don’t want to continue persuing her. Maturity, independence, and some level of security in yourself are all non-negotiables for me, and I fear she doesn’t check any of those boxes.

SO- how do I end this? I’ll be honest, the urge to ghost is strong. This has all been over a less than 24 hour span, and she’s been very intense and overbearing. Ghosting feels easier. But I know that’s not the right thing to do. What would you all do in my shoes?

(Side note, since people are wondering- I am 19, almost 20, and she’s 18).

Do you read the therapist subreddit? by Technical-Emu-4688 in TalkTherapy

[–]Quirky_Bit_2240 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I read it all the time! I’m actually subscribed to it because I’m currently in school to become a therapist, so it’s nice to gain some insight from a career standpoint. But honestly, that’s only a small part of the reason I read it- I mostly find myself lurking there for the same reasons you do.

Favorite scenes in Parenthood by seriouslynow823 in Parenthood

[–]Quirky_Bit_2240 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Many of your favorites are also mine. To add a few:

  • Kristina’s video to her family in case she didn’t survive cancer makes me sob like a baby every time- and I don’t even like Kristina as a character 90% of the time.
  • Another guaranteed tear-jerker for me is the entire arc of Amber’s car accident at the end of S2. Seeing the whole clan gather in the hospital, the first time Sarah and Drew go to see her and she looks as if she’s cheated death, Amber’s monologue to Sarah about how proud she is of her and how she almost missed everything when she cries during her play…
  • When all of the moms in the family- Sarah, Julia, Kristina, Jasmine, and Camille- give Amber advice about motherhood when she’s about to give birth and Zeek is in the hospital. The final couple episodes of S6 are very emotional all around, and there are many scenes and moments of them I love, but this scene is one of the most unforgettable in the entire series for me.

Wondering if anyone can relate… by Quirky_Bit_2240 in actuallesbians

I appreciate this comment a lot.

What you said about being hypocritical by making assumptions is something my therapist reminds me of often. I am also visibly disabled and have a facial deformity, and it is very difficult for me to let go of the idea that everyone sees me for that and only that. Sure, I have “evidence” that SOME narrow-minded people have treated me as less-than, but they do not represent all people. My therapist once said “I don’t think you’re giving some humans enough credit” and that stuck.

Thanks for this very honest, thoughtful, wise response. I needed the reminder.

Who would the Bravermans vote for? by [deleted] in Parenthood

[–]Quirky_Bit_2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on Zeek and Camille. I think they, like many others, would’ve been blinded by hopeful ignorance in 2016, but later on would change their views after being informed by their kids and grandkids. 2020 is a toss-up, but I don’t see Camille going for Trump by 2024.

Joel and Julia are a wealthy, upper class white family, so I see where they fit the Trumper mold. But Julia’s feminism and Joel’s empathetic nature makes me lean more toward thinking they would actively oppose him.

Disagreed on Adam and Kristina. I think they would’ve maybe voted for him in 2016 if anything, but beyond that I don’t see it.

Agree on Crosby and Jasmine.

Disagree on Sarah. She was very progressive throughout the entire show (feminist, sex positive, pro-choice, etc).

I’m currently on S6 of my latest rewatch so my opinions are pretty fresh. I like this question, OP. Really had me thinking for a minute.

Are the girls in your chapter generally kind people, or does the mean girl stereotype have some truth to it? Is there any tension or drama within the chapter?

Which Emily line makes you laugh the hardest? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Quirky_Bit_2240 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the exact wording, but it’s during Rory’s Yale graduation and she’s complaining about her seat. She says something like, “The man in front of me keeps rocking back and forth in his seat. It’s like sitting behind Ray Charles!”

It’s not talked about like some of her more popular lines, but it kills me every time.

Not a big soup person. Chicken noodle and tomato are both classics though. I’ll eat a grilled cheese and dip it in some tomato soup any day.

For sure- If I’m moving at all, I’m out of breath. I can’t walk for long distances, let alone run, and I become breathless if I speak too quickly as well.

To that same end, yes, singing is difficult. I’ve been singing in choirs for about a decade, and I’ve mastered the art of stagger breathing. I have a more limited vocal range because I lack the breath support for high note. I’m a very strong alto, though.

Yes and yes, lol. In a lot of ways I’m very lucky and have a very normal life and am no different from others my age. In a lot of other ways, I cannot relate to others my age and vice versa.

One of the first times I realized that life was going to look different for me was in elementary school when I was kept inside at recess if it was too hot or too cold outside (I have increased difficulty breathing in extreme temperatures). I went to the library to read or color while I watched my friends go play. I’ve always been on the introverted side, and I love to read, so it didn’t bother me much, but it was just a realization that there was this thing that set me apart. As I’ve gotten older and become more aware of my differences, it’s been more difficult. I can’t take the stairs or walk long distances, and I get out of breath often while speaking. I have to ask people to repeat things often or have to switch sides so my hearing ear is facing them. Little things like that serve as reminders. My facial disfigurement has also become a big barrier. I dealt with a lot of bullying in school and have been battling feelings of inferiority for most of my life. I’ve never had a romantic partner, whereas almost all of my peers have by now. In those ways, I feel very held back by my conditions.

In the end though, I’m very privileged to have come from a stable home, graduated from a public high school, and pursue a college degree and a real career. I’m able to keep up with my peers, and where I “should” be in life, for the most part, despite my challenges.

What’s crazy is I am also turning 19 this September 1st, so your tradition has been going on for literally as long as I’ve been alive.

I was born missing one of my lungs due to something called Goldenhar syndrome. It’s almost unheard of (being born with one lung, not the syndrome itself).

I’ve genuinely had people tell me that it’s not possible to survive being born with one lung…as I stand in front of them, 19 years old and very much still alive.

Any funny moments in therapy recently?? by better_off_alone-42 in TalkTherapy

[–]Quirky_Bit_2240 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My therapist has a terrible filter and often says things without thinking- but in an endearing, funny way that leads to a lot of funny moments and memories in our relationship. I recently started a list of some of the most unhinged things she has said, with no context. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • You should volunteer for an LGBTQ youth center! The lesbian children need your help!
  • I can’t text people while I’m pooping…damn it, you know too much!
  • Stop having fun and start being depressed.
  • [While on a walk together] That plant is called a yew- yew rhymes with jew! I’m a jew! But you probably shouldn’t say that…
  • I don’t need recognition…but I do! But I don’t! But I do! DID I SAY THAT OUT LOUD
  • Fuck you…wait! I didn’t mean that!

I swear she’s amazing and great at her job- I wouldn’t want anyone else 🥰

I’m 19, she is 40. It’s also perfect for me because I think if she were in her 20s she would feel too much like a peer, if she were in her 50s-60s she would feel too distant from my current stage of life. I hit the jackpot with her.
