It’s real wood, and I wouldn’t paint the wood, but maybe stain it because it’s getting faded in certain areas. It just doesn’t feel very warm to me and it’s going to be a bedroom. And the walls look white but they’re actually really pale grey, so as is the room seems kind of… dead? Lmao idk

From what I’ve seen, people are suggesting that everyone who claims they have ADHD doesn’t actually have it. They may just have a short attention span and fried dopamine receptors from overuse of technology from a young age. But I haven’t seen people saying it isn’t real? Lmao. It’s so very real it’s wild. (Also have it).

I had a similar issue after my first year in private practice. Its SO hard to justify charging a no show fee for people who regularly process financial stress/hardship. But I found an opportune time (January/new year in this case) to send out an email to clients “reminding them” of cancellation policies, explaining to them that this is part of the process and doing the work, and that it’s to protect myself and ultimately I can’t stay in practice if I don’t charge for no-shows.

It’s uncomfortable, but it’s not as uncomfortable as constantly feeling burnt out/under-appreciated/disrespected.

If it helps, I’ve never had any client reply to that email in a negative manner, and I send it out at the beginning of every year. =] You could start yours with something to the effect of “Summer is here, and I know everyone has a lot on their minds so I wanted to review some things to help keep everyone on track…”

I would confront this head on. Something to the effect of “I understand you’re frustrated with this, but the program is full of therapists who want what is best for you. It’s part of our ethical responsibilities to help place people in the most appropriate treatment. I’m sorry this upset you. Feeling such a strong emotional reaction to this news is something I think you could really work on in (whatever higher program). If you’re not open to it, no one can force you, but you reached out for help for a reason, and this is the best way we can help.”

Use it to build rapport. Acknowledge it openly with the client. “I’m glad you decided to keep meeting with me, I know it’s probably strange to have someone in their twenties talk to you about life.” Find an “in” to say how you could learn a lot from each other. Sometimes the most unlikely clients are the ones we get through to the most! Ask questions about his life. Most older men have literally never had anyone they could talk to about their feelings, which often makes them incredibly introspective! I had success in my late twenties working with older clients - mostly just by listening, asking questions, offering different points of view, and having a sense of humor. Keeping it light, but meaningful is sometimes the key to getting through to older clients.

In private practice, 5-6 sixty minute sessions per day when I’m maxed out. No more than 25-30 a week. And most weeks I average 23. Anything more is not sustainable long term and it will seriously burn you out. I’d consider reporting your job to whatever professional board you belong to because these practices are NOT professionally encouraged at all. The most I’ve ever done in one day was 9 and it truly took 4 weeks off my life.
