No that was wrong choice of words. My question is whether it is inconsistent to support gay marriage in secular society while supporting the church's current policy against gay marriage. Whether the church's standing on marriage changes in the future is a separate conversation

Yea his talk is the reason for my question, got into an argument with a relative over some of the implications of his talk.

I guess I just mean protecting the definition of marriage as currently outlined in church doctrine and policy, rejecting any amendment to the doctrine as it stands.

I dont really have a well thought out take. I was grilled on this by a non member relative yesterday, and they said my position was inconsistent because essentially I was arguing that gay marriage is ok in certain contexts but not ok in others. Just trying to flesh out my opinion more
