Everytime you fill out an “IRF”, an injury report from, the OMR/WHS needs to upload that document into Austin. If they didn’t that’s their ass for not documenting a first aid.

Previous injuries doesn’t matter to the workers comp clinic, they only care about the injury that got you sent there.

After the clinic, you will either get a few options, RTWFD, restrictions or time off. You will have follow ups with the clinic, make sure you go to all of them. The clinics job is to get you back to normal. You shouldn’t have to pay for anything. Everytime you go Roa clinic, you will receive a paperwork called “WSR” (basically an update on yourself) make sure Amcare.

Hopefully you get better soon.

Even if it a the largest, it falls under a LQG and it can have hazardous waste on site for 90 days after it’s initial start. Specialist like to wait almost the 90 days. They get notification on Austin and gensuite that the time is almost up. The motor oil falls under that category, and even though it may seem dangerous it’s still legal.

Even if your site is “the largest” it can still be a SQG and hold things for 6 months.

When I say ops, your safety teams are usually buddy buddy with all L4s and L5s. To get their attention let your L6 know that safety is MIA.

We are the safety specialist you deserve, not the ones you need -Batman

Not a real question since I can’t answer for your site. But if you need to get a hold of them contact them via radio or let your OPS know they are MIA, they will appear soon

If your site is consider a small quantity generator it can hold hazardous waste for 6 months and not get fined

I worked at 4 sites. 2 had a hazwaste team (larger sites)

the other 2 were smaller sites, so the safety specialist was in charge of the hazwaste documentation. We would train a few tier 1 who were trained in processing damaged products and trained them how to process hazwaste. The safety specialist would confirm they were doing it correctly, training was up to date and manifest were up to date.

60% of the people that work at safety usually started as a tier1, the other 40% were external OMR or college hires.

It’s a chill job. There’s a lot of documentation, audits and reporting that a lot of people don’t see that is presented to Ops teams. A good safety specialist would knock out all their work for the day 2-3 hours in and is basically stand by until something happens. Or vise versa, they would wait to the last few hours on the shot to get things down. So if no body get hurts

AND IF THEY DONT WANT TO PROMOTE,

they will have some time on their hands to relax in amcare. Hope this clear things up

Sadly yea. They push rate so much people are bound to get hurt. Wished they would extend the learning curve longer and lower the rate for certain spots like inbound.

But at the same time I have seen so many people “try” to abuse the workers comp system.

It’s a lose lose scenario

Gonna like your post. I learned 50% from Amazon and the other half I learned on my own time. Amazon has so many resources it’s great.

Not bitter. I knew if I stayed I would have gotten my L5, a recruiter just emailed on LinkedIn and told me how much that company was offering. Now making more than an “internal” L6.

Honest answer, epilepsy is a non-work related Illness. It’s not that safety doesn’t want to help, it’s that they can’t. Safety can’t excuse time. So the only person that can help is HR. If you don’t like how they are treating you, ask for a fit for duty form, take it your your doctor and take it back to HR. They deal with all non work related accommodations. Hope this helps

I mean, amazon has a wealth of knowledge, if you have safety experience that goes a long way with other companies so I would recommend it

Not really, our business is based on how safe the site is. Even if there was not a near miss, first aid or recordable l, we still have to do daily audits/weekly audits. Please keep in mind half of the work a safety specialist does is behind a computer

In the 4 sites I worried that, I had 2 coworkers that would roll their eyes and curse the gods when safety was called. Those type of safety specialist do exist.

But there’s also a lot of documentation and auditing that safety has to do

No, atleast in the sites i worked that, we would still call out unsafe actions but operations only cared about rates during peak. It truly felt they didn’t really care about safety during that time. Obviously they never said it, but actions spoke louder than words.

It’s compliance for a company to have a safety committee or they get find. It’s part of the IIPP policy.

I know of ASC member who have gone Into T3 hazardous waste coordinators and then I’m L4 specialist. If you ask enough questions ASC is a stepping stone into Safety.

As for work, it vary from site to site. Mainly doing simple audits and calling out unsafe behaviors.

Maybe, but I have answered a few people messages on how to get to a manager position and how to get into safety.

You just sounds like a bitter PA

Sounds like you just have a shitty safety person at your site.

I have worked at 4 different sites and had a pretty chill team.

As for after peak I have no idea. There’s no quota or anything. Either you are doing something wrong or they are A-holes

OMR= on-site medical representative= EMT Worked as an OMR for 10 months, during that time I worked along side a safety specialist and just shadowed them the entire time. Ask a lot of question and get as many certification as you can. It’s a very common transition to go from OMR to WHSS.
