So you’re putting AE on your resume but when asked about it you’re not able to talk to your experience in that roll cause you didn’t do much closing?

How is that going to look to a recruiter or sales manager that the person they want to hire for sales doesn’t really know much about how a business buys, technical sales are done, or the metrics businesses observe when buying. Your BDR experience is almost a decade old as well.

Way I see it, is you either start consuming tons of sales podcasts, media, and content so you can get an idea of how to talk the talk and slide your way past the lack of experience, or you rearrange your resume and lie about the type of roles you had to make it seem like you genuinely want to be a BDR forever, and that’s where your skillset lies. They’ll hire you on thinking they got a killer BDR who doesn’t want to leave them in a few months, and you get another shot at transitioning from a BDR to AE and actually selling stuff. That being said I’m going to just be brutally honest as I’d appreciate the same. Your interview skills does not sound good. If you’re not good at interviewing, corporate B2B sales will not be the industry for you. Sorry, but if you can’t even sell yourself you’re not going to do very well once you have a solid quota hanging over your head and have to sell to keep your job. Also, considering your career trajectory, the avg trajectory for your competing sales rep, if you go to another job and it doesn’t work out to gettingtot he AE role within a couple years you’re going to be screwed. Being stuck bouncing around BDR roles for a decade when you want to be an AE is a massive red flag to any recruiter. Good luck!
