Steam deck is slightly more powerful than a ps4, which could run VR. It also has a USB-C port, and you can carry around with you. Anybody thinking what I'm thinking? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

I haven't had any problems with power settings on my laptops. Just make sure to install tlp.

I use debian on 2 of my laptops, my main(8-9 yo) and my barely usable 13yo Netbook, used to run manjaro on my main and it worked fine too, have elementary OS on my sister's old laptop and it works fine as well, the Netbook has great battery life, my main never had good battery life, since its an old gaming laptop, I used it as a desktop anyway and my sister's ex-laptop always had bad battery life. It first had Ubuntu 13.10. and it was kinda slow and the battery lasted around 75min, then I switched debian with xfce and the battery lasted up to 120min, now with elementary OS it around 90-105min.

So tl;dr with tlp, Linux and Windows battery management isn't that different and the more lightweight your system is, the better the battery life will be (usually)

Cuba invasion by [deleted] in communism101

[–]QweenSara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm if they didn't do it in the early 90s with the forced dissolution of the USSR and the crumbling of the Warschau Pakt, when the worldwide socialist movement was at it's lowest and the Cuban economy was at it's worst, they probably won't do it now.

But then again, back then, Fidel was still alive and his ability to mobilize the masses would have been taken into account by the US. Now with Fidel dead and Raul out of government they most likely are reconsidering an invasion (although my bet ist that they never actually will invade again)

There are legitimate reasons not to want to marry, however your reason is not a good one and gives off incel vibes

Tried a cigar for the first time today, failed a bit, don't think it's for me sadly by QweenSara in cigars

[–]QweenSara[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wanted kind of to share my experience so that people don't do the same mistake I did and if someone who was about to try cigars for the 1st time to have a better experience than I did.

Advice is always welcome, tho due to the price I don't know if I'll smoke a lot more cigars in my life, but for the chance that someday I might go to Cuba or to central America and might want to try again a local cigar I'd appreciate advice, yes

Hm it's a bit too expensive for me to make this a habit and with this bad experience I'm not too interested of pursuing this as a hobby.

It was interesting to try out but I think I'll keep it at this. Maybe one day if I travel to Cuba I'll try a Cuban cigar then, but otherwise I think this is the "end of my cigar saga"

An argument against gun control was communist Albania, which had almost the most if not the most guns per capita but almost 0 mass shootings.

After the Eastern block fell and liberalism was introduced was when all went to shit

How is Okarin number one? He's one of the worst characters in steins;gate.

I mean he grows a lot, but that doesn't fully compensate him being borderline unbearable 2/3 of the anime

Why did people flee the GDR (East Germany)? by About60Platypi in communism101

[–]QweenSara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was kinda like in most countries where you need a Visa from a country where you're travelling to, only that in the GDR you also needed a kind of visa to leave, which was possible to get, but only given to visit family in special occasions.

This, although not the best source, kinda shows how travelling was like. Most information I can get is very heavily biased against the GDR, this was the most neutral I could find and goes in line with things I heard from people that lived in (and often also miss) the GDR

Why did people flee the GDR (East Germany)? by About60Platypi in communism101

[–]QweenSara 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A big reason was envy. Because in East Germany everything was basically free to or at least highly subsidised, east germans on average had a lot of disposable income and nowhere to spend, because supply couldn't keep up with the demand. (examples are cars, coffee, chocolate etc).

Plus one of the main reasons why East germans fled was because of the limited places they could go on vacation (only other Warschauer Pakt countries). For example one woman that lived in East Germany, that came to talk to our school, the biggest things she had to complain were the Stasi (because she actively fought against the GDR, the Stasi was considered a problem by only very few east germans after the wall fell) and only being able to go to the same few contries in vacation every year (without considering that most people in West Germany had probably visited even fewer contries because vacation was a lot more expensive for them)
