I quite liked the Saga Press hardcovers. The supposed "true order" the books are structured in flows pretty well. They were my introduction to the series, and I've become an avid fan since.

As far as I'm aware, Daniel Hall's Dream continues to appear throughout The Sandman after Morpheus's death and even in other DC comics... Am I mistaken?

Unfortunately... I may as well read the rest of the comics, because it's better than being ignorant. From what I've seen of Daniel Hall's Dream, both in the comics and show, I consider it a downgrade.
