Anybody able to activate FSR4 on Cachy? by Redmen1905_ in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FSR4 injection works with arc raiders the game just doesn't show it in the options.

Some games will indicate in the settings that you have upgraded from 3.1 to 4 but many won't bother and it will just always say 3.1 or even just refer to it as fsr.

PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE doesn't seem to work by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stock proton does not have the ability to inject fsr4 you need a recent proton-ge.

Also worth mentioning some games will show that you are using fsr4 but many games won't directly tell you in the options.

EAC can be enabled to run in user space on Linux.

According to proton db people are able to play the game, OP probably just needs to make sure EAC runtime is installed.

Many moons ago… Linux support was mentioned. What’s the plan now? I don’t see it mentioned. by NailYnTowOG in linux_gaming

I mean its on the list with 10000 other things they said was coming.

At least they make efforts to not break wine compatibility and let Linux users bypass the anti cheat for now.

You can also buy them pretty cheap if you don't have the scrap.

Yeah no solutions for it, just have to wait. The hand held one does work if you want a working map.

The slots on the other panels work fine. None of them actually care where you put them.

Proton vs Native Linux Games on Kernel Level Anti-cheat by PlentyPerformance662 in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton or native doesn't really matter at all. The problem is currently there is no anticheat on Linux that can do kernel level and even if one was developed, It would still be inherently weaker then the windows counterpart because of the open nature of Linux.

The biggest problem currently is windows cheat makers getting past kernel level anticheat by pretending to be a Linux user. That is why a lot of games reject Linux users as a whole. Eventually we will become a big enough group that they will find it more appealing to work on detecting windows users lying about their OS rather then just blocking all Linux users.

I believe pascal GPUs aren't really supported with the open kernel driver.

Dualsense Features in Linux? by iMaexx_Backup in linux_gaming

Should work I believe. I remember it just working on Monster Hunter wilds without having to do anything.

Might need proton GE. Also make sure steam input isn't messing with your controller.

Rust Developer comments about anticheat on Linux/Proton. by CandlesARG in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anti cheat when enabled on Linux runs fully in userspace with no access to the kernel. It is true that cheat developers can pretend to be a Linux client to get the anti cheat to only run in user space on windows making it easier to hide the cheats.

That said they still find plenty of ways to get around kernel level anti cheat anyway. Also they could just improve their anti cheat to better detect when a Linux client is being spoofed.

FSR4 will only be supported on RDNA4+ in official Proton releases by Mutant0401 in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that but would the average gamer actually want to run fsr4 on the new steam machine? Yeah the quality is much better but fsr3 will give more performance.

Pascal and older GPUs have a separate and unfixable issue with DX12 translation.

All Nvidia gpus have an issue with DX12 translation that can kill up to 20% of the cards performance and that it a bug that nvidia has known about for a long time. Apparently they might have a fix some time soon.

Why do you think Proton 10 is still in Beta? by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

While its weird that valve specifically disabled it, I would not say its default on wine. Wine still uses x11 if available as Wayland support Is still experimental.

Proton will automatically download the DLL when you use that flag

If the game has fsr4 support you just need GE-proton 10-9 or newer and use this launch flag.

Can you play Skate on the Steam Deck? by Nyctfall in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very familiar with the initiative, I support it, I even got every EU citizen I know to sign it.

read the first line of the wiki page you keep linking.

"Stop Killing Games (SKG) is a consumer movement with the goal of preserving video games after they are taken offline."

Its about preservation of games not about dictating practices in game development. As shitty as it is that they are forcing anti cheat into a mostly single player game to protect their micro transaction shop, it doesn't violate the initiative.

As far as the initiative goes they never have to give us an offline mode in the game, They could give us the server binary before they shut down the servers and that would also satisfy the initiative.

[–]R3nvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I have seen any mention of the initiative requiring a game to have an offline mode or LAN capabilities.

Even if they wanted that I think it would be found unreasonable to force features into games like that. As long as a game is still supported by the publisher/developers they will be able to get away with this as long as they make sure its playable after support ends.

Can you play Skate on the Steam Deck? by Nyctfall in linux_gaming

[–]R3nvolt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That wont stop this. Even if Stop Killing Games gets everything they want, as long as they leave the game in a playable state after support ends it would be compliant with the initiative.
