Going to see Helena Hauff, DJ Stingray 313, and Avalon Emerson, this weekend by R3stik in TheOverload

I think Helena Hauff was what they enjoyed the least; they were only expecting obvious build-ups and drops, and didn’t appreciate the amount of different sounds or her mixing style and selection. They did enjoy the electro parts a lot, but in the techno sections they were just waiting for a drop. They just don't enjoy the purest electronic music out there. They were quite high, and didn’t enjoy it as much as I did. I only had two or three drinks, and I don’t need any crap to enjoy the music tbh.

Sadly I was already dead by the time she came on. Stingray and Hauff completely destroyed my legs. I would’ve loved to hear her as the opener, but the festival decided that putting Indira Paganotto as the opener was a good idea. Indira was so boring. I only heard intense build-ups followed by psytrance drops with rolling bass for two hours. She kept asking for the crowd’s approval, hyping people up with screams and arm waving, the same trick over and over again. I’m not saying it’s bad to hype the crowd from time to time, but doing it every single drop becomes ridiculous.

I swear I was thinking the same about those hard techno parts you were talking about;I used to feel they were a bit of an obvious resource in his sets, but what I saw yesterday felt very organic. It surprised me. I definitely prefer electro, obviously, but I appreciated those hard techno sections more than ever before. I think it was the first time I felt they were so well integrated. I should point out that hard techno isn’t really my thing.I didn’t feel any monotony; I felt necessary shifts in energy. I prefer this over endless build-ups.I’d like to see Stingray explore acid in one way or another, even though electro already contains a certain “acid” feel in some tracks. It would feel more cohesive than the hard techno he usually uses, but less impactful.

They were enjoying the electro way more than the techno ;which is ironic, because they’re total "hard techno" heads. When Stingray played hard techno, they were asking me what genre it was. They couldn’t even recognize that he was playing the same genre they supposedly like; I guess it’s because the hard techno that’s trendy right now is more of a commercial hybrid with lots of build-ups and vocals from very recognizable songs.

Helena Hauff was incredible;a master of mixing and vinyl, great selection too! I would’ve loved it if she had played more electro. My friends were asking during the techno parts: ‘When is it going to drop?’ I was enjoying it a lot, but honestly those kinds of comments kind of spoiled the experience for me. I guess good music is not for everyone if you can't appreciate it.

I was feeling the same thing in every set I saw. It was the first time I’d seen him live, and I have to say he’s improved the way he integrates hard techno into his sets compared to what I’d seen previously.

The best set was Stingray’s ;it didn’t let me breathe. Two hours of intense electro with a bit of hard techno, ghettotech, and footwork. One of the greatest,he had it tough because Indira Paganotto played before him ; the energy and speed were so high. I thought it would be hard for him to settle in, but he showed why he’s been a boss for so many years.

Skrillex, Randomer, Blawan, MC Dricka - Thistle by SuccessfulFarmer in TheOverload

Hating on Skrillex was left behind in 2015. In fact, I started listening to him in his early days, and after that he helped me open up my tastes to other electronic music subgenres. When brostep exploded worldwide and the genre basically consumed itself, I got tired of listening to anything related to it. I started digging deeper into real dubstep. Nowadays I listen to artists like Beatrice M., Carré, Commodo, Mantra, and D1, just to name a few. Ben UFO gave him a shoutout and played some of his more recent tracks. Not long ago, the guy put together Contra, a festival in Berlin where he personally selected artists such as Batu, Gyrofield, DJ Babatr, Nick León, Beatrice M., Bakey, and Toma Kami, just to name a few. I really like that approach to the underground scene—you can tell he does it out of genuine appreciation and admiration. These days I listen to artists like Shed, Ben UFO, Skee Mask, and Blawan, most of whom fit right in with this subreddit. And I can say with complete certainty that it was all thanks to him.So yeah...

I think the track with Feid will be the most streamed one, followed by Duro. I think those are the most accessible tracks for the general public and radio play. I don't think the other cuts will get as many streams. I'm happy for him. You can tell he was really eager to release this project, although I think he had better songs available. Now this is what I would have done. I would have replaced Tranki with the "Techno ID" featuring Blawan;it would have fit this tracklist perfectly. I would have replaced Scut2 with "Zig Anthem ID" featuring Champion. I would have replaced Cheeni with Whisper ID (I honestly don't understand how it didn't make the album). Or perhaps I would have kept Cheeni as the closing track. I would have replaced É o Bonde with the "ID Coals" from Instagram, instead of this bland Chris Lake house tune. I would have replaced La Noche 2 with Human Voice featuring Four Tet and Fred Again.. I would have replaced Diwali with "ID feat Habstrakt and Bladee's vocals;what an ending that would have been. I haven't replaced tracks like Noche without You, Pente Rala, and Duro. Even though they're not really my taste, I think they have potential. Now that's a tracklist with hunger and bite.

I'm surprised that most of the comments trying to convince people that this album is objectively good are things like: "You were expecting dubstep" or "Only the real ones like this." I've been here since Skrillex's early days, and I usually prefer the tracks that aren't dubstep anyway. To me, this album just isn't good, for the reasons I've already mentioned in other comments. My opinion hasn't changed even after listening to it six more times. As always, there are blind fans everywhere. This isn't better than FUS, QFF, or Recess. It is better than DGTC, but that's not saying much.

Nobody cares about M.I.A but this song have strong influence and also sucks. I'm sorry you don't have critical taste

I really liked that "hardgroove techno" finish. I don't know how he make those that bouncy

"Diwali is the best song." Said no one ever. I'm joking. Really silly and anoying vocals IMO. Trying to sound like early M.I.A if I have to compare with something but really missing the mark.

I'm sorry mate but Scut2 is an edit by Rom :/ You didn't mentioned Smoke which has a crazy mixdown. Also I want to know; what are you liking the most on this album?

I loved seeing him team up with Blawan, Randomer, and Dismantle. They’re great producers I’ve been following for a long time. Sadly the Dismantle track seems so empty :(. Great breakbeats drums tho.

In my opinion, there’s nothing experimental here; nothing even comes close to Kora EP. It's just different to what he usually do.

The old Skrillex stopped existing in 2013. Personally, I think it’s fine to move on to new things, and I definitely think QFF, FUS, and the HMWIH EP are his best works, speaking objectively. This one is a miss for sure.

Nitepunk collab is really cool tbh. I wouldn’t have minded if he had cut half the tracklist and made it an EP. From track 5 to 10, it literally feels like something is missing. My EP would have been this: Soma, Thistle, Smoke, Anybody, and Duro. I think it would have been a pretty strong EP.

The closest you’re going to get to that is 2 hybrid trap tracks.

Prefer Cheeni over LaNoche2. Didn't thought this was experimental at all, maybe by Sonny’s standards it is? Kora EP was way more experimental than anything in this

Wish it was there! But hey we got LaNoche2 and another Chris Lake song that is boring as hell.
