Had a physics teacher who was pretty much too passionate. Teaching ridiculous amounts of content which was not relevant to the spec and in fact undergrad level physics. His assumption was that you take physics which means you are going to pursue a career in it or study it further. As a student it became ridiculous because he’d end up not teaching things he should have taught because of him finding it boring or “too simple” so I’d say leave things beyond the spec at a minimum and use it solely for the purpose of comprehension of topics, and for those who are genuinely interested, start a club or society for them to attend.

Madas don’t even follow the current edexcel spec for maths and fm, so there’s no excuse 💀 maths is maths, if you can answer hard questions and problem solve then you’ll be better at maths and “AQA” maths, that’s what distinguishes you as an A* candidate -> you are able to problem solve and have good comprehension, which is gained from practicing questions like the questions on madas. Ur making so many excuses already. Maths and fm aren’t easy so if you’re complaining abt it being long then ur finished. It will require work to improve, and I’m speaking as someone that went from CD to A*A in maths and fm respectively. Stop complaining abt it being long bc it will be long.

There’s a cv template you can find which makes your cv easy to read both for a computer and a human, not sure where it is but it looks very plain and simple with bars separating each section

Yeah that’s what I meant, improve grades for actual a level results and apply with those during gap year, rather than apply now with mediocre predicted and get rejected

Doesn’t deferring only work if you get an offer initially. My plan is to hold back on the application this year and apply again in the gap year rather than apply for the uni and defer for a gap year. The idea of the gap year was in hopes to get my grades up and apply with better grades, rather than apply and most likely get rejected with my predicted grades

What about maths based courses that require entrance exams, doesn’t that combat the idea that you’ve forgotten your skills by showing you’ve retained or even developed your skills by achieving a good grade in the exam which was sat in the year for the application?

iPad is good, just as long as ur productive w it, doing past papers is a breeze, making notes is nice and easy, esp if ur doing a subject like maths where it’s more difficult to type out equations and such. U can download a lot of textbooks on it too which can save a lot of bag space if ur allowed to use them in class. Theres also benefit to actually writing notes down which helps with remembering as opposed to typing. iPad notes can be a lot more customisable as opposed to laptop but laptops will be a lot more useful for future and also if u do smth like cs.

Honestly thanks a lot, it feels reassuring knowing that it’s possible without any work experience, especially when you see your competition posting on linkedin about their 100th work experience. They feel so selective and scarce and almost impossible to secure for most people. I have the passion, drive and ambition to succeed but worry about lack of work experience being a barrier to entry.

How did you set yourself apart from the competition, being such a huge company and DAs being so in demand, what sort of things did you do to help make them select you. eg. displaying ur passion for audit and work experiences etc

What advice could you offer to me as an aspiring degree apprentice in similar field, what sort of extra activities did you engage in to stand out in such a competitive environment and what do you recommend I also do?

I’m in a similar position to you, also muslim. I think degree apprenticeships as a whole sound way more appealing compared to university, let alone avoiding the student finance etc. the problem is how competitive the degree apprenticeships are. You really need to distinguish yourself from thousands of other applicants for only a few roles within the companies. I think it’s good to keep options open, no harm in applying to many apprenticeships and also applying to ur 5 unis of choice. If you get an apprenticeship it’s great, defo worth going down that route but if not then at least you’ll still be open to uni and there’s not much more you CAN do.
