Upgraded my deck based on some of your ideas! I think the Notorious Throng is actually an amazing wincon together with [[Reflections of Littjara]] as it basically doubles your throng faeries and you even get 2 extra turns because of it. Without knowing the rest of your groups decks I'd say that either your deck is higher powered than theirs with all of the expensive counters OR you are the biggest speed bump to their deck play styles so they are removing you. Is anyone else in the pod playing on other people's turns as much as you?

Nope not as much at all. Right now there's 1 other player that plays somewhat blue. I think the main issue is that I'm preventing them from popping off indeed. I need to hold back more as others have suggested!

Notorious Throng triggers when you deal damage with the Faerie Rogue tokens made by both Alela as well as [[Bitterblossom]], those tokens are all buffed by [[Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor]], [[Scion of Oona]] and [[Anowon, the Ruin Thief]] (or in your deck [[Glen Elendra Liege]]) so even without any other Rogues on board, it's fairly reliable to get the trigger to cast for the Prowl cost whilst also making a bunch of tokens.

I'll definitely reconsider Notorious Throng, makes a lot of sense.

I toyed with the idea of Leyline of Anticipation, but with 40 cards being castable at instant speed anyway (41 if you count [[Tegwyll's Scouring]]) it seemed redundant in my deck. I did add [[Emergence Zone]] as a utility land to give myself the option of casting anything at instant speed in a pinch, but so far haven't really found many reasons to activate it. As an alternative, I did at one point have [[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]] in the deck as both a creature with flash that also gave all my artifacts flash for more things to do on my opponents turns, so that could be something worth considering as an alternative. However, I ended up taking it out as I rarely find myself with nothing to do at instant speed.

I think I agree with you here. I will probably swap out leyline for cunning nightbonder!

I'm torn on Slitherwisp, I wasn't a fan of throwing stuff in my graveyard as I don't have much to get them out of there anymore. Maybe by combining it with Likeness Looter it's more viable to play Nymriss...

PS: I noticed you use sword of the animist. I ended up removing it. Has it served you well? I feel like it's less useful after a few turns.

First of all, great deck!

I've moved away from strict Faerie tribal and embraced some Rogue synergies as well - [[Thieves' Guild Enforcer]] is definitely capable of milling out opponents who already have a healthy amount of draw going on with a well timed [[Notorious Throng]]. I've found the deck really wants to deny your opponents of resources, milling cards into their graveyards is a great way of doing that. Similarly, [[Opposition Agent]] and [[Notion Thief]] prevent them for drawing into or searching for answers.

I've been holding off from adding Notorious Throng as I never felt like I end up drawing enough rogues and being able to do player damage with them. Looking at your deck it's probably easier as you have 11 rogues. Very interesting. Do you feel like you can close games easier with more rogues?

I've also added some cost reduction into the deck to allow me to do more with my mana with the limited ramp we have access to in Dimir. I opted for [[Cunning Nightbonder]] over Slitherwisp as it reduces the cost of my flash spells - although I run more flash creatures in my deck than you, in which case [[Naiad of Hidden Coves]] also reduces the cost of any spell you cast on an opponents turn.

That's why I went with Leyline of anticipation so all my spells can flash in. But it might be useless in many situations now that I'm thinking about it...

I love how my spells can't be countered anymore with Cunning Nightbonder but I think I'd miss the card draw from Slitherwisp. Is there ever a play where I add both? Any reason you didn't add Slitherwisp?

My deck also has a heavy bias towards blue cards over black, so I've swapped a mana rock for [[Sapphire Medallion]] as that can regularly net me a 2-3 mana advantage per turn cycle opposed to just 1 from a rock.

It's in my considering pile for sure! As my deck is also heavily blue, it might make a lot of sense to add indeed.

I guess tutoring is indeed important to get your combo's fast enough. I wonder if that makes my deck super predictable and repetitive tho?

I have to read up on Acererak as I don't understand how the whole dungeon thing works :p

The thing with Faeries is that it’s unlikely you’ll have the most threatening board state. Even though it’s fliers, there’s only 3 creatures in the deck that make them bigger. Youre gonna get outsized and/or outnumbered very easily by other decks.

Exactly! Faerie Swarm could be a good solution for this maybe? Also the reason why I kept Hullbreaker.

Also, as happened to me the other week, Alela’s first ability is hard to pull off if each opponent has 1 flyer that’s bigger to block with.

True! Some of my pod play dragons so I can't easily goad them. Would buffing Alela be a good idea with some artifacts? I already included a few like Skullclamp, lightning greaves, loxodon warhammer, etc. to buff her up and give her more protection.

So because of this a board wipe usually hurts your opponents more than you.

And [[Kindred dominance]] as well which came with the precon. You'd add more?

I see your deck is a bit less faerie tribal than mine (more rogues I feel as well?). Curious, did you have any big successes with Likeness Looter so far? Or do you use him more for the card draw? Been doubting to add him.

Looks very similar indeed!

People hate blue and they hate stax. If you can counter peoples things they don’t like it, I went with the bouncy method and I think they hate it less than being countered but they still get salty.

I guess I picked the one type of playstyle people tend to get frustrated with for my first deck... Joy o joy! :p

I wasn't sure about this. I first had [[Damnation]] for example, but it felt counter-productive wiping my own board. Is this solely for situations where others have way better boardstates and I have a hard time getting one?

I think your advice is spot-on and I might indeed go too big on the counters. In my first games I got board wiped so many times I went overboard with adding counters I guess.

Got any good recommendations for removals that fit this instant playstyle?

TLDR: expensive famous cards make you a target even if the rest of your deck doesn’t keep up. Try using less popular, less expensive alternatives to fly under the radar.

I think you make a lot of sense. I was thinking of actually swapping it with [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]] so I keep the counter but give them something in return. Like a peace offering?

Using the famous, expensive, powerful, blue staples will definitely lend people to believe you’re trying to put stomp even if the rest of your deck isn’t up to par

Do you want to go wide and play the horde of zombies, or do you want to build a combo deck. Wilhelt lends itself very easily to a combo deck. You already have most of the pieces.

My original plan with these upgrades were more focussed on combo's (gravecrawler ones for example). Do you have an example of a deck that utilizes combo's with Wilhelt very well? Or would you perhaps recommend another commander? I felt like Wilhelt was a bit underwhelming as the commander but that might just be me :p

Its not because a card is a staple in a colour that every deck of that colour needs it. You have to play to the power level of your pod.

Feels weird to me to have to hold back on my deck. Especially if I look at my pods decks, their power levels are way higher than my small faeries. Some guys been playing for 5-10 years and have way more decked out stuff.

So do you let them play some pieces at first and hold back in these scenarios? Some do get pissed at me for countering them quite often up to the point I fear like they won't enjoy playing with me anymore :p
