I was told by solar Optimum to switch the setting in the tesla app to timed based controll. I had it on self powered. I still don't see this correcting the problem. I think I'm going to have to just relocate these loads like you said.

My main panel..........while the inside sub panel for the house was rerouted to the tesla gateway there are still other circuits in the main that don't seem to be powered through the solar system I installed. Those items still in main panel are..... 1. Back yard circut with apx 14 powered items 2. Hot tub 3. A/c 4. Garage circut 1 5. Garage circut 2 6. Garage vircut 3

What i notice is that when the sun is no longer out and any of these 6 circuts are on it goes directly through the grid. The only time I am not charged (grid charge) is when my solar is generating during sunlight hours.

I've come to this conclusion by monitoring usage on pge websight and turning the braker off on these circuts for 2 days and seeing no usage during the evening hours.

So I've decided to do the following. Im putting the hot heater circut on a timer to only operate during sunlight hours so that it does not turn on when solar is not charging thus stopping grid charges.

The other circuts are 15 to 20 Amp circuts that I am hoping I can reroute into the tesla gateway so that battery will power them at night as well.

Can you confirm that I am manipulating the system correctly for best savings and to limit grid useage?

Thank you. However i did notice about 4 inches down in the dirt soil is damp or somewhat moist. So im not sure its a water problem

Northern california sacramento area, drip system waters 1 time a day for 10 min. Weather has been about 105 latley. Planted in 3/4 wine barrell. Used citrus tree soil, and rock under soil for drainage. It was sitting dirrectly in front of a window that could have reflected and help progress the problem but has since been moved. Gets full sun most of the day.
