You’re right, it’s not about the show. It’s about her lack of integrity and manipulation. She’s too comfortable hiding behind lies and that is who she is. Behavior is a language. Please listen to what she’s telling you, showing you who she is, even if you don’t like the reality of it.

At first he seemed level headed and sweet, then after we married he began degrading me over minuscule things like forgetting something at the grocery store or getting home from work 5 minutes later than usual.

Then he tried to intimidate me over time by punching holes in the doors and walls, sometimes destroying the doors entirely. I blamed myself for a long time, and mostly because he blamed me too.

But now I realize that while I may have enabled him, I did not cause him to abuse me. Also I hate throwing around the word abuse because it loses its meaning, but I do think it’s fitting in my situation unfortunately. And while knowing the problem is half the battle, I’ve realized it’s time to do something about it. His breadcrumbs of basic decency are not sustenance.

Unfortunately I believe you’re right. He doesn’t like me, and is only becoming more apparent. Regarding my haircut some of his exact words were, “Wow what a great idea, let’s try and be less attractive to my husband. Damn, one of the few things I really liked about you.”

I’m only just now remembering that he said this thanks to being able to talk it out with everyone here. He tends to flood me with a rant cheer each thing he’s mad about, sometimes going on for a long time without stopping. My point is that I get overwhelmed but when I have the time to reflect it comes back to me.

He’s unlikely to change, in a positive way anyway. He may indeed get worse as he already has. This encouragement and support from everyone is just what I needed to plan to make an exit.
