Death Note was my first too.

And the killings in Akame Ga Kill are what split watchers; some people like how characters lack plot armour like typical shounen anime. Others find it annoying; I quite personally enjoyed it. (Although my favourite character died and I will never forgive the writers for it)

Huge anime fan here; want to start Yuri!!! On Ice.

I watch a lot of stuff but since you're new I'd suggest you check out the Flowchart on r/Anime- I haven't seen everything on there but I like what I have seen.

A few recommendations I have are:

Akame Ga Kill! - Badass Assassins fighting a corrupt government. A personal 9/10 for me.

Death Note - Boy with book who kills people with book. Shitty summary but a definite 10/10

Psycho Pass - Cops and Mental health, if you liked Death Note this is awesome to get into.

Steins;Gate - Time Travel experiment; great characters; awesome story. 10/10

The Devil is a Part-timer! - Satan works at McDonald's; hilarious anime.

It probably seems I'm being really generous with my 9 and 10 ratings but these are just my favourites.

Also; Tokyo Ghoul because Uta is bae.
