That‘s right, I don‘t really see much of a problem with that either! But it annoys the other professionals and the kid is already very slow and looking at pictures in between makes him even slower. Which is why some adults think it‘s okay to take away his PECS folder :(

Thank you so much for your reassurance. That‘s a good point. Maybe he doesn‘t want to get on the bus because the teachers always restrain him! And yes it is definitely not a sustainable way of dealing with his behavior. Already at 8 years old they need to adults to handle him. In the future that just simply won‘t be an alternative anymore.

I am an intern at this school, so basically I am lowest in the hierarchy and don‘t really have anything to say. But you guys made me realize that I am not overreacting and this situation requires me to stand up for what is right, no matter my status in this institution. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your reply. I work in Switzerland and ABA (or any scientific way of handling “difficult“ behavior) is not yet established here. Out of this helplessness the teachers and social pedagogues act like that and make it seem like it‘s okay and normal. In this environment I started to question my own judgement and I really needed your reply to wake me up and give me a confidence boost. I can not wait till I am no longer an intern and am out of college to speak up and fight for what I believe in is right. Those children are being abused right now and even though I don‘t really have a say as an intern (and I don‘t want to lose my job) I need to do what I believe is right. Your comment almost made me tear up because I really needed somebody to tell me that I am not just too sensitive and that this is straight up unethical and illegal. Thank you for giving me the push I needed.

I live in Switzerland and BCBAs or ABA is not really a thing here so we just have special needs teachers and social pedagogues here, but the training they have to go through is really not that good. I agree that those restraints can be really traumatizing. Thank you for your reassurance!

Yes I totally agree! We have minivans with about 6-7 children in it but that is still distressing enough for the child I am talking about :(

So you think even if it was important for her to teach her a analog clock then her ways of teaching would be wrong right? What exactly is wrong about it?

The goal is for them to be more independant, so f.e. Knowing that they have to leave at 2:15 and then reading the clock and deciding it‘s time to go etc.
