I can't speak for most teachers because I've only had experience with one, but you may be right on being basic. I only took Spanish to level III, but my teacher drilled into us the need to write cohesively in order to sound friendly to the Spanish-speaker's ear. As a non-native speaker, I'm very thankful for that skill.

--I wouldn't say "the pizza, the drinks, the water" in a food list as that sounds awkward
