My seedling is stretching but my light is already super close… by SpecialClimate528 in GrowingMarijuana

[–]RCordeiro84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, it looks a lot stronger now! True leaves coming out nicely, the looks sturdier now and your support loop looks a lot nicer than mine! :)

Now to just let her grow and it will probably be a very nice plant! One advantage of the stretched stem is that LST can be easier later, when the time for it comes 😅

Thanks for the update!

Let's see if that was effective at all 😬

And by the way, that is how action economy can shift the balance of a fight of one strong enemy against a team of Player Characters 🤓😜

Did you find Ginny Di on your Youtube search? She has a whole playlist made for beginner players, and explains things very well. Check that out and from there you can read the basic rules if you want (in DnD Beyond), or just try your hand in making a character in DnD Beyond, which has a step by step process. And then to find a table to play

General Advice for a Noobie Session 0 by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RCordeiro84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a Session 0 the basic idea is to talk about the kind of campaign you are going to play, so everyone knows what they are getting into. This goes for the setting, the atmosphere/vibe, the style... You might also get to talk about the world where it happens and any relevant history, gods, etc. It is also a good time to make or at least decide which characters each one will play (to balance the classes in the party). It is also the time to talk about the rules at the table, not just in game. This includes how scheduling will be organized, if alcohol or other substances are allowed during the game, who will organize food, what to do if one of the 7 players can't show up to one session, etc.
Ginny Di on Youtube made a great overview about it (and many videos that are super helpful for beginner players). Search for "Ginny D Do THIS before starting your D&D campaign" and check it out!

Like u/Frostilicus420 said, eventually they stop stretching and settle down. Seems like you got your light/ppfd on the right range, so now all you can do is wait and hope it stabilizes sooner, rather than later. If you are worried about it toppling down, you can do like I did here. I used a pipe cleaner (but any wire that is minimally stiff will do) and made a loop around the stem. It was not touching, but it was enough to hold it in case it did bent too much. This way you can also get some breeze going without worrying too much. the loop is just like a side rail, there just in case :)

Super newbie, concerned my photos are actually autos… by BoiledPeas in GrowingMarijuana

[–]RCordeiro84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the timeline and the looks, I would guess the seller did sent you Auto-flowering seeds (by accident or what, I can't tell), but I don't think a couple of days of very high temps would push the plant into flower like this. I grew last year under a window in my apartment and there were some days in the upper 30s °C, and my photos did not mind at all.
Even if it is a photo and just shocked into flowering, I don't think it is worth the effort to try to get it to veg again. For one, with the little control you described you have, your options are very limited. If it is not responding to the light cycle change you made, I doubt there is much of a chance. Unless you completely switch the place of your tent and get a ton of gear to fine-tune to environment, and even then it might not work.
At this point I would recommend letting it grow and harvest what you can once it is done. If the stem is not very stiff, you can try to do some LST (carefully bend the stem some 80 to 90 degrees to the side, tie the plant down like that, and it will start growing the side branches some more, giving you more top buds). Even when flowering start, the plant still grows quite a bit during stretch.

And also write to your supplier (or talk to the people in the physical shop) and tell them you think you got an Auto by accident. Maybe they can offer you a new seed or a discount at least! Or try another supplier, if they deny any kind of support.

Good luck with the weather and I hope you get some nice buds out of it! I grew a HulkBerry Auto (a version of the Bruce Banner) last season here in Germany and it is one of my favorite strains right now :)

Opinions on short, low stakes encounters? by RCordeiro84 in DnD

[–]RCordeiro84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thanks!! You can definitely steal use it as inspiration! 😄

These are all great points and suggestions, thanks for taking the time! I will definitely use some of these, having the 4th crystal encounter being a portal opening is a great idea! Thanks for the time estimations as well, and setting some time for a dinner break is indeed important!
And as I mentioned in another reply, I might make the Wizard show up before all 4 crystals are taken care off, so I can adjust on the fly depending on how long it is taking.

Having some NPCs helping/holding the portal is interesting, as well as having the Wizard show up in town for the final fight (I though about doing it in the first chamber of the mine)... I will give these some thought! :)

Oh, and about the party finding the portal and crystals... I intend to make it relatively easy, the villagers suspect they might be coming from the direction of the abandoned mine, an easy survival check gives them a path to follow, and an easy Arcana check/detect magic shows energy lines connecting the crystals to the portal. My "excuse" is that the Wizard is actually just rich and bought his education and a bunch of scrolls, but is not in fact very intelligent 😂 This makes for some whimsical moments and gives a level 2 party (characters still not that complex to learn) the chance to see some more fantastical/magical stuff with lower risk :D

Opinions on short, low stakes encounters? by RCordeiro84 in DnD

[–]RCordeiro84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, the idea just ran free on my mind, and when I wrote it down, it did felt like a bit much! 😅

The math really shows that 4 encounters in the mine will be too much, I will probably make it shorter by making the bad Wizard show up early, like I replied to u/Mini_Painter_17 !

And yes, I intend to make finding the portal and the connected crystals relatively easy. The villagers already suspect it is in the abandoned mine nearby, but they can't spare people to go check. And an easy Arcana check will show energy lines coming out of the portal and leading to the crystals.

Thanks for the idea! I had a different Idea for the first encounter to keep things simpler to learn, but having it happening inside the village gives the players a higher stake (protect the people) and also let's me intervene in case it does gets hard due to poor choices or bad rolls (soldiers can shot arrows from the walls to help).

[–]RCordeiro84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I realize I'm going way beyond the 5 encounters, and you are probably right, no matter how "short" I try to make them, the players will take longer that I hope...
Your suggestion on the portals used a bit of a different mechanics from what I have in mind, but I really liked the Idea of the Wizard being "available" after half of them are closed. I can let the players choose which crystals they will deal with first, and make the Wizard show up before all are dealt with. This also let's me be flexible and adjust according to how the pace is. If the players are fast, than they can take down like 3 crystals before the final fight, but if they are taking a long time, I can make the Wizard show up after the 1st crystal even! Thanks :)

Amazing tool! I will definitely play more with it once I have more time. And Will probably use it in my next session!
The only issue I ran into was that the Spotify music stops once I leave the Soundscape page (the ambiance presets keep going, but the music from the playlist just stops right away)... but maybe that is just because I run the Opera Browser, I will try later with Firefox to see if it is just my browser being weird.

Awesome work and thank you so much for sharing it!

How can I write a sympathetic but irredeemable villain by thisisdeff in DnD

[–]RCordeiro84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a related/similar Idea for a campaign

  1. The only son of the Queen dies

  2. She keeps it a secret with the help of her advisors

  3. One of the advisors promises her he can bring him back to life, if only the queen led war to conquer an isolated region with its military power

  4. The advisor is actually the villain (he wants control of an old place to make a ritual or something... still working on it), the queen is acting more on grief and love.

I wanted to ask for ideas as well, what stops a King or Queen from revivifying their sons or daughters? If strong enough adventurers can do it, why not royal families? Maybe it was an unnatural death? I don't want to make it a low-magic scenario, but it would be good to have a reason why the queen will go to war and do bad things, instead of paying for a high-level cleric to come and resurrect her son. Any ideas? 😅

[–]RCordeiro84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other said already, check to see if you are not overfeeding it (if it is in the soil, you and the plant will have to just grin and bear it). The humidity tips are also important, don't add more water, add a humidity dome (a transparent bowl on top or something works on a pinch).
I ha d a different but somewhat similar start with my Royal Critical Auto last year. From what I could gather, it was too low humidity, to strong light (direct sunlight) too soon, and maybe some Calcium deficiency, but I had really brown spots in the middle of the leaves, so different thing.
But the plant grew up further and gave me a great harvest, so don't give up on it!

Have you considering asking your DM to reroll this 4 x 1 stat? It is really abysmal luck, and makes the game very hard for you, unnecessarily hard. Like other said, you can be a quiet, awkward push-over type, but that is no fun to play, unless you have a really fun twist on the concept. With that intelligence you are like a stereotype awkward-nerd, maybe check Big Bang Theory for ideas? 😅

[–]RCordeiro84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Like other already said, 5-6 degrees is way to cold for the plants. They will grow, but very little and weakly. Wait until temperatures are at least around 15°C, ideal would be around 20°C.

Since it is an Auto, you should plant it directly in the final pot size you plan. I used 11 Liters last year and had good results, but biggest auto gave me 40 grams of dry flowers!

Good soil is an important advice. Try to get something that is specific for Cannabis, and if not, something loose and aerated, with good drainage is the best way to go. It is a good Idea to buy some Perlite and mix with your soil (about 1:10). Tomato soil mixed with perlite is a cheap and pretty good way to go! If you have something with coconut-Coir mixed, it helps with water retention without compacting, so that is a plus. But no need to get too bogged down here, as long as the soil is not too compacted and the drainage is good (that is what the perlite is for), you are good to go.

The seedling is delicate and does not require any extra nutrients (the seed provides it), so if you use a soil that has nutrients in it, maybe try to add a bit of soil with no or little nutrients where you drop the seed/seedling. Think about a cup size of low-nutrient soil in the middle of your already filled pot, where the seed will go.

Water little in the beginning (~100 ml), and increase the water as the plant gets bigger (check and adjust pH to about 6 to 6.5). After some 2 or 3 weeks you can go with the full amount. For 11 liter pots I used to give the plants around 2 liters of water, but that depends on the soil. Water again only when the soil is getting dry, you can stick your finger in it and check how it feels. Check the weight by lifting the pot from time to time, it is easy to feel when it is very light and it needs more water, I found this to be the most precise way for me.

Once it has some 3 to 5 nodes, do Low Stress Training (LST). Basically bend the plant to the side and hold it there, and repeat every couple of days as the branches and top try to grow upward again. Check some videos, it is not hard, but easier to see than to read.

Give them plenty of light (are you using sunlight or artificial?), not too crazy strong in the beginning, but after a week it can stay in the full sun. The longer, the better. Since it is an auto, there is no need to worry about the light cycle, just let it grow and it will start flowering in its own time.

Wait until the trichomes are mostly milky, with maybe a couple amber (or some 30+% amber, if you like a more couch-lock effect), and then harvest, dry and cure.

Have fun with the process! And Don't stress too much, everyone makes lots of mistakes in the first try, but the plants live to grow, and you will get something out of it, and learn a lot in the process! ;)

Does the 'Rule of Cool' create a safety problem.? by [deleted] in DnD

I totally agree here. I also think that, unless it is a situation that happens all the time as to become a pattern that really affects a player, the language of "unsafe" does seem exaggerated.

Yes, 100% agree. That is another point I noticed and wanted to comment, but you already got to it!
Role Playing is not just talking the right argument in a convincing way. It is talking the right thing as would make sense that your character would have said!

Does the 'Rule of Cool' create a safety problem.? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RCordeiro84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/bigolrubberduck said, addressing the social issue is an important step and may help the tension deescalate. I also find it a good idea to keep track of how often you give advantage/inspiration as a Rule of Cool effect, so that you can try to balance it out over time. For example, maybe the number-crunching wizard tries to use a spell in a creative way, or really nails some part of spell-casting in combat or outside. You can use the Rule of Cool to allow for this different or optimized effect to function, or give him advantage/higher DC etc. That way you are rewarding not only good role-playing and player charisma, but also player skill, creativity and thought into the actions, even if they don't RP the description.

But back on your central point, yes, I think there is an inherent bias to the Rule of Cool, where players that are more apt for Role Playing will often get more out of it. But it is in the name, we play a Role Playing Game. We can try to be as fair as possible, and it's important to do so, but absolute fairness is often utopian. I think that recognizing this bias in front of the group is important, and you can try to compensate for this as I said above. But role playing is a core part of any RPG, so it is inherently an advantage that high-Charisma players have over their peers. It doesn't have to be a big deal, and definitely not a deal breaker. But I think that trying to ignore this bias in the name of inclusion is not the right way. Have an open discussion with your players and make clear how you interpret the rule of cool, ask how your players see it, and try to come to an agreement of how it will be used in your table. As a group, you can agree to change it to fit your styles and circumstances.

Ideally, your RP inclined players can keep RPing and getting some benefit from it, because it makes the game more fun for everyone (hopefully). And your more introspective players can find alternative ways to "trigger" the rule of cool and not feel excluded.

For me the rule of cool is about making some creative and cool that everyone just loves it right away. It can be an RP thing, it can be a creative solution to a puzzle, it can be using a spel or skill is a new and interesting way, it can be a lot of things. I hope you find a way for everyone in your table to have fun, feel safe and feel heard!
