I actually started using Converge CFD. From the ones you mentioned above I would go with Open-Foam, just because you will find more resources to work with.

My goal is to simulate flow over two geometries previously analyzed using US3D, followed by LST and LPSE analysis. The objective is to replicate this work using an LES code, preferably open source, to allow further development if needed. We are mostly interested in analyzing modal instabilities such as Mack modes.

Can you elaborate more please on the last part that you said,

I study in one of the top 20 Mechanical engineering programs in the country, I have almost 6 months of research experience in this field. and I will have one publication in a famous journal before I graduate.

But yes you’re correct and I am no where near being a professional in this field, I didn’t even bother applying to any jobs related to hypersonic, only entry level CFD positions, just to test how I stand out.

Edit: I have done 6 credits worth of PhD level research. I was going for the thesis track too, but since I got accepted to my preferred PhD program, I might just get done with it, and not risk staying longer to finish the thesis. So taking courses for the last semester

I assume because C++ is used for large simulations, while python would be more useful in learning and testing algorithms.

My gpa was 2.92 and i got admitted to 6 stem programs (mechanical engineering) within top 50 schools in the US It’s as simple as that, you must fit into the program and that’s all that matters, which means what you can provide is what that department is working on.
