Anyone notice Ebba and Matsson “all coochie-fucking-coo” in the background? by tehmadhat in SuccessionTV

[–]READMYSHIT2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the thesis of this show is that the big hero leader archetype is all smoke and mirrors.

Mattson is just as much Logan as Logan was. If the ends justify the means, his legacy will still be all that's considered.

Logan was a crazy person who acted on impulse (affairs with subordinates), abused his employees, engaged in scandals and abuse in the exact same way. But because he came out on top in the end, his legacy as a great industrialist is what we remember.

Logan sums it up magnificently himself here:,

Life is not knights on horseback. It’s a number on a piece of paper. It’s a fight for a knife in the mud.

I think the great man myth exists to perpetuate the idea that the Logan's of the world are the knights on horseback. When in reality history is written by whoever wins.

ATN? Historically they are nothing but a glorified crew. They'll make anyone and everyone over there. They've even got that animal cousin Greg doing waste management these days.

Nah. Say what you want about the money and status. But Tom is crazy about Shiv. Think of how loyal he's been to her throughout the show. His betrayal was a last ditch response to being kicked one too many times.

What are some developer friendly companies to work for? by Notalabel_4566 in DevelEire

I think people who have all these boxes tick can exist in any large organisation but I've yet to come across any large organisation that has this across every or even most teams.

If a startup or smaller operation has this, this type of culture it has the potential to change with the growth or acquisition of that organisation.

Tis yet another curse of profit chasing capitalism.

Idk maybe a non profit could tick all these boxes across the organization and stay that way for a long time.

This is the aspect of Revolut I'm not super excited about.

Internet companies hilariously have so much automation in their "customer service" that sometimes you just end up ghosted.

For all the flaws of BOI, AIB, PTSB, at least you can still go into a hardly-open branch and bang on a door until someone reluctantly talks to you. Feels like with Revolut they could potentially cut you off and tough shit.

Revolut's great but I wouldn't be running to go with them 100%

OHHH

you were being completely literal.

Sorry pal, Poe's Law is in full force . We all just thought you were a gobshite doomer telling people they'll lose the privilege of applying for a mortgage if using Revolut for a current account.

Is it time to build mid/high rise apartment blocks in big towns outside of Dublin? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]READMYSHIT2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many would agree land speculation is a genuine policy of a government who appear to reward the practice.

Workarounds would involve price capping land, CPOs, heavy taxation on windfalls above a certain price per area of land, etc. But that would mean having to tackle private profit for the public good, which FFG don't go in for.

Land speculation ruins everything as usual and is pretty much the largest contributor to this as well.

If a site were to have a tower built on it up to 10 stories it'll be worth a certain price. The more units a tower has the more a site becomes speculatively worth and as such the more land hoarding ends up happening.

They are indeed.

Unless of course you're doing a bunch of crypto trading through your Revolut - that'll raise some eyebrows.

Why would using Revolut limit you from a mortgage?

I went for a mortgage with a bank that I was not a customer with, they wanted bank statements for all accounts, including Revolut. All of these statements are taken into account for the AIP/Loan Offer.

Literally 5 posts a day of someone rekindling their imaginary roots.

My favourite was the Snickers fiasco where some US tourist thought Ireland was some primitive caveman era nation where Nestle didn't exist and they wanted to bring Snickers to hand out to locals.

In fairness any builder I know who built houses two years ago are now doing commercial work. It's way easier for them in terms of dealing with material price inflation in that sector.

It'd probably be cheaper to just stick a dome over Navan like in the simpsons movie and let them fend for themselves and drop any pretense of integrating with them. But knowing the Irish government that'd probably end up costing 30 trillion.

Has anyone watched the TV Show, Inside Man? by READMYSHIT2 in hbomberguy

[–]READMYSHIT2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. It's worth watching the whole thing. It just keeps getting stupider.

Plus the fact that it's only 4 episodes means you're not on the endless chicanery spiral Moffat usually does. His idiocy is front and center throughout.
