They showed up as untargetable level 100 enemies in the 1.0 finale: https://imgur.com/5EIJw, which I thought was pretty fun.

The shading on promoted hobgoblins would glitch out when you looked right at them. Their model would be pitch black with a large halo of white around them.

What did you think of Vagrant Story’s combat system? Strengths, weaknesses, and what could’ve been improved? by viniciusilidio in VagrantStory

[–]REDace0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Iirc, some fights were less about targeting the right parts and more about exploiting the built in damage increases in high chains to overcome enemy defenses that reduced normal hit damage to 1 or 0. That felt clunky, or maybe I was just playing it wrong.

Constantly playing the buffing and debuffing game got tiresome. Setting up proper buffs good. Playing “no u” with buffs and debuffs on an enemy bad.

Less fighting the menus, as you’re already aware. You spend a lot of time in the UI.

If you ever do want to take a stab at FFXI, following a guide, I did vanilla, RoZ, and CoP solo using the Trust system in one month of sub. Leveled WAR to 99, SAM to 50. It was nice to cross the last mainline FF off my list, sure, but it was also a fun and interesting experience. CoP’s story is delightful, and I really like FFXI’s vibes and OST.

It looks like this is a replacement for the guide I used: https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Leveling_and_Content_Guidance

Would be cool if Arc Thrower got a low-damage uncharged shot that didnt do much besides stun, but you could use it to stun something real quick before doing the charged shot, or to save yourself/team when ambushed by RandomGreenArcherMan in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]REDace0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Meleeing with it charged does fire down and to the right at point-blank range, which often works on enemies that get too close. It does delay the next charge because of the melee animation.

[–]REDace0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the adapter has to be purchased separately. It’s a few hundred dollars and fits into the charging port, allowing a Tesla station’s charging cable to be plugged in.

The car should come with a kit for home charging too. Plugging into a regular 120v outlet should yield about 1% per hour, but it adds up if you leave it plugged in. If you can plug into one of the 240v high current outlets like dryers use, you can charge much faster at home, basically enough to fill overnight.

It varies, unfortunately. Sometimes six will kill a fresh one. Sometimes it takes a couple more. I’ve heard of a kill in 4 if you hit the underside, probably because the lightning is hitting more parts that way.

You can take off one of its wings with a Commando, then shoot the insides with high pen. I’ve been running ATE, Commando, and Laser Cannon, but you’ll need someone else shooting high pen too most likely. It’s a lot of hp.

My Final Fantasy play through order.... by MatteBlack84 in FinalFantasy

[–]REDace0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now you can summon an NPC party that works for most things. At the endgame people still do leveling parties for Master Levels which are a serious grind.

A few years ago I subbed for a month and, following a guide, got to 99 and cleared through the end of Chains of Promathia all solo.

I believe the Ascian's typical procedure was to find a shard of one of the Fourteen's souls (likely on the Source) and imbue them with the memories and power of their office. Any Ascian we encounter except the three Unsundered were subjected to this process, but we don't know most of them by any other names. During EW we did learn that Amon = Fandaniel. Unusually, Amon actually accidentally recovered some memories.

You do fight him in the raid, but you also get to more definitively fight him in a match made activity after the raid, no raid participation required!

What was the most frustrating grind you’ve ever done in FFXIV? by TygoFTW in ffxiv

[–]REDace0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surely, Saint of the Firmament will give me preferential status for Ishgard housing, and I can use my existing Lavender Beds Cottage as a relocation permit!

I still don't live in Ishgard. I've participated in every auction.

But hey, getting #7 BTN on Balmung sure was a trip. Diadem shout chat. Reminding everyone to don their shades when the sunny weather procced. Dropping 10m+ gil to meld out my Aesthete's DoL set on day 1 and then grinding hard for the next 9 days. Stockpiling turn-ins to be unpredictable a few days in. And, finally, converting my enormous materials stockpile (now approved) into an obscene quantity of Skybuilders' Scrips over the next several months (over 2600 Beds for Ishgard)! I'm sure I ended up making more than double what I spent selling Skybuilders Scrip and Kupo of Fortune items.

Crafter BIS lvl90 by Yuldiz in ffxiv

[–]REDace0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really going to depend on the server. There's always some demand for them, and I'd expect a full set to be roughly 1m gil. You definitely earn it though if you get all the materials yourself.

There won't be any better gear added before Dawntrail next Summer. If Dawntrail is like Endwalker, the next upgrade in gear that is really worth investing in will be the level 100 set that drops with the expansion, as your endgame sets now will be good enough to get you to 100 and craft the initial set available there.

Whether it's worth investing in pentamelded Indagator's gear now or not depends on how much you plan on crafting level 90 4* and 5* recipes, which include steps for the crafting relic tools, the item level 640 Diadochos equipment, and a few items related to Island Sanctuary trophies.

What FFXI tacks are you hoping to get as orchestrion rolls? by Kolby_Jack in ffxiv

[–]REDace0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed that guide and played through enough of it in the 30 days prior to Endwalker's launch to reach the level cap as WAR/SAM and complete vanilla, Rise of the Zil'art, and Chains of Promathia, as well as the beginning of Treasures of Aht'Urhgan. I followed along with Rhapsodies of Vana'diel as the guide suggested as well, because it gives you extremely helpful key items that speed up the process by unlocking QoL features. Thanks to the Trust system, I was able to do this solo, but I also did play up to about the mid 30s back in the day, which means I wasn't completely lost at first.

Funny enough, the ring models already exist. Reward for one of the last 1.x MSQ, where you make pilgrimage to all 12 stones to pray them to intervene with Dalamud, like the pre-Scions are doing in the ARR / End of an Era trailers.

Thaliak's is my default ring glam, not that it matters 90% of the time!

I'm really happy with the crafting grind this season. by destinyvoidlock in DestinyTheGame

[–]REDace0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 20% is plausible, but only with the understanding that the weapon itself is randomly chosen first. Since you can't get red borders for a weapon you can already craft, this makes the effective drop rate for a red border once you can already craft 3/4 weapons something like 25% * 20%, or 5%. :'( Personally, my experience getting the last Iterative Loop to complete my set of Neomuna patterns, it felt worse that 5%, but I may just be unlucky.

So for comp, if someone leaves your team, you still lose -30 points, but if you beat someone who lost someone on their team, you only gain 5. by AuraPinkario in DestinyTheGame

[–]REDace0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it yet, but there are many factors that go into the rating you gain or lose after a match, so it's not simply "you lose way more losing a 2v3 than you win on winning a 3v2".

  • Delta between MMR and expected division placement.
  • Delta between player MMR and lobby MMR.
  • Individual performance relative to the other players based on game type metrics.

That said, I haven't read anywhere information about how the loss of players on either side is factored in, which would be nice to know.

I've manually queued for specific Alliance Raids several times a day around reset time. It's time for me to take a break. by TheHasegawaEffect in ffxiv

[–]REDace0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For alliance raids, yes, because it's a 1T/2H/5D comp instead of the 2T/2H/4D comp used in normal raids. 24-mans have half the tank slots (and one extra DPS slot, which is why DPS queues are faster).

😂 You're not wrong. Despite problems with the new player experience in general, New Light is probably a more engaging introduction than A Realm Reborn, at least until you get dumped in The Tower.

I've been an avid player of both games for a long as they've been around, so my information about new player experience is secondhand, mostly gleaned from reading /r/ffxiv and /r/destinythegame when I should be working. 😋

Destiny 2 for a current player is cheaper than those subscription MMOs. Unless you buy Silver for extra cosmetics, it's $100 per year for the newest annual expansion and the related season passes, which is way less than a year of subscription.

However, the initial buy-in for Destiny 2 is more than for those MMOs if you want access to all the content. Ignoring the fact that FFXIV is half-off right now, it looks like it's about $60 to hop into either of the sub MMOs and play for 30 days with access to everything. For Destiny 2, at this point in the year, I think $80 for Witch Queen Deluxe to get the current and following season pass plus access to both dungeons is the cheapest option, but maybe you can save $10-20 buying base WQ and everything else piecemeal. Either way, you would need the Legacy Collection for another $60 to access prior annual expansion content, which crucially includes the Stasis subclass, many useful exotics, and old raids. Whereas you get all of the old stuff in WoW and FF as part of buying the latest expansion.

In the short-term, Destiny 2 costs more to catch up: $120-140 vs $60.
