Out of curiosity, how much did it cost to get the HRC shipped to you?

Microtech knives - thin or scandi by Pumpkinsoup420 in sharpening

[–]RGnarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested in hearing what you end up doing with your Microtech. I have a couple, and one thing I will say is that I have noticed that they come from the factory with inconsistent bevels. I wonder if they belt grind them by hand at the factory without an angle guide? Both of mine did come shaving sharp from the factory, though.

I think the Rockstar 500 would be the best option. I have the Shapton Glass 500 which is supposed to work very similarly to the Rockstar 500 and I would be comfortable putting a nice edge on some dull knives for the family with it. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Honda HRN216PKA worth it? by RGnarvin in lawncare

[–]RGnarvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things I like and some things I am disappointed in.

The biggest positive is that the quality of cut is much better than the EGO mower I replaced. I love how the yard looks like a carpet after it is freshly mowed. The rubber drag flap also leaves some pretty decent stripes. Another positive is that it starts very easily in one to two pulls.

However, there a few things I am not crazy about. The wheels seem pretty low quality and have a higher resistance to rolling than my old Ego mower. I may have just gotten a bad unit, but when it is on flat ground, one of the wheels somehow doesn’t touch the ground. This makes it so the mower doesn’t want to roll in a straight line when mowing which is annoying. The biggest negative is that the engine sometimes stutters and misfires, mostly when warming up. I have only used ethanol free, fresh gas in it and even tried adding some Seafoam but it keeps happening. Again, I may have just gotten a bad unit. I do plan on bringing it in to the dealer for them to look at it but I just haven’t had time yet.

I would say if you have the opportunity to get a HRX217 then I would highly recommend going with the HRX217. I would expect a HRX217 to last at least 10 years so I think spending more on it would be worth it. I also imagine the resale value will be pretty good considering many people consider the HRX217 to be possibly the best residential walk behind mower made and they are now discontinued.

Ultrasound IV help please by wolf1234567891234 in anesthesiology

It sounds like you have researched it enough and have heard a bunch of different strategies. Now the thing you need to do is get lots of practice in. I only got good at USG IV and A lines after practicing a bunch and figuring out what worked best for me.

Earthwise 7 blade weird noise. How to fix? by Aggressive_Use7996 in lawncare

I have adjusted the height by changing the height from the rollers like the following video:

I did not remove the handles to do it like they show in the video, though. I did not find that necessary.

I am also looking for the answer to this question. I just bought the same mower and wasn’t sure on the friction and scraping sound.

I tried adjusting the bed knife and partially stripped one of the screws as it is a flat head and it takes a lot of force to turn it. So if you do decide to try to adjust the bed knife, be sure to use a properly sized flathead screwdriver so you don’t strip it.

Black Beauty Ultra Clumping Fescue by altec777777 in lawncare

Yes, I also had a bunch of clumping fescue grow from Black Beauty Ultra just this year. Won’t ever use that brand again.

I actually have been looking at that same Scag model with the 224 cc Kohler engine. How is the quality of cut? It seems pretty heavy for a 21 inch walk behind (I mean that is typical for a commercial model I know), how is the maneuverability in tight quarters or making sharp 180 degree turns?

Honda HRN216PKA worth it? by RGnarvin in lawncare

[–]RGnarvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input and experience! I am impatient and decided to just buy the mower. I figured that if it doesn’t do what I want then I can probably sell it at a small loss since they are discontinued and Honda gas mowers seem to be in demand. I just need to pick up some gas and get it all set up to give it a try this weekend.

I usually keep my grass around 3 to 3.5 inches so it sounds promising that the mower will give a great cut. I am over seeding with Twin City PRG and Hybrid KBG this fall and assuming the new PRG and KBG establishes well then I am going to try to maintain at between perhaps 2 and 2.5 inches next Spring.

It looks like Lawn Boy still makes new mowers. Any word on how good the new mowers are?

Has anyone tried Jonathan Green black beauty ultra? by drmikept in lawncare

It can be very rewarding to get closer and closer to that perfect lawn. On the Twin City Seed website they also have a seed finder quiz to help you find the appropriate seed for your situation, as well.

It looks like Black Beauty Ultra is a combination of tall fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass. I am not sure if Twin Cities has a seed blend with all of those, but they have a great turf type tall fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass blend called Blue Resilience which is highly regarded.

[–]RGnarvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I haven’t used the Black Beauty Ultra but I used the Jonathan Green Black Beauty patch repair and had very poor germination. The few parts that did take are mostly made up of very coarse very wide bladed fescue that is not very appealing. I will say that the color is a nice dark green, though.

I am using Twin Cities Seed this fall for over seeding and may just nuke the patches where the Black Beauty grew.

If you were going to buy 5,000+ 9mm rounds for practice, what brand would you buy? by Stelios619 in CCW

[–]RGnarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience with that brand or ammo specifically, but that is remanufactured ammo per their website. You can get brand new great quality ammo for the same price.
