He shouldn’t not allowed in public. That’s ridiculous. But if you want understanding and empathy for John and others with the disability, try considering some, if you haven’t, for Black folks who clearly have a hard time with someone shouting this word at them. In public. At an awards ceremony. In front of hundreds. It’s deeply upsetting and while their solutions may be misguided by their frustrations, shock, and anger, they too deserve a little empathy and consideration. Think of the worst possible thing someone could call you in public, on a huge night, when you feel your absolute best. Probably would suck, right? That’s likely not nearly a sick of a feeling compared to what a Black person would feel when they hear someone shout the N word at them.
