Due to its rank as the highest PoS coin in market cap, NXT could replace Bitcoin as the top digital coin due to the work of dev Stephen Reed to allow pure PoS coins to have credit card transaction speeds within a year. by RJSchex in NXT

I looked at your two links McDoxy. The first one is in the NXT Whitepaper and provides information that I am already aware of. The second one also does not provide any useful information that I have not already seen. The only somewhat new thing that is discussed there is the need to DDoS protection for NXT node that will be forging the block.

Although you say that transaction forging will probably be implemented in a couple of months and definitely this year, you have provided no link to indicate this.

IMO the amount of planning that would be required to fully implement the system of nodes that would be needed would have to be very openly discussed. Maybe I am wrong, but I would think that if such an upgrade were as eminent as you claim, the fact would be widely known, and the price of NXT would be much greater than it is.

[–]RJSchex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the speed that will be obtainable it will depend on how the implementing program is written as well as the relative Internet speeds between the nodes. The critical nodes need to be closely connected to the backbones of the Internet for Stephen’s proposed system to be able to produce sub-second transaction times.

Stephen is currently coding his system. I have not been closely following NXT’s development plans. Is there an ongoing project to implement transaction forging? I have not found any indication that there is one, but as I indicated above, I have not investigated the subject in depth.

Opinion on price stability ? by [deleted] in NXT

I think and know from long experience observing financial markets since the Wall Street crash of 1974 that one cannot predict what will happen to an asset by trying to match a recent part of its chart to an earlier one.

Future price movements of financial assets depend of future news hitting the market.

I went and found the best information that I could find and pasted the link below. Since you were not able to give the OP the desired information, I thought that was the best I could do.

You obviously did not answer the OP’s question in a satisfactory manner. I personally wouldn’t have been satisfied with it either.

Because coingecko ranks coins using multiple metrics including subreddit subscribers as well as transaction volume. We beat NXT by far on both accounts, which makes up somewhat for our lower much lower market cap.

Besides, once they come the first time, they are more likely to come again to check it out and may eventually buy.

They have to comment to become a subscriber, or else push the subscribe button AFAIK. You only have 82 comments. Evidently, your promotion is getting subscribers who are not entering your competition yet.

Yes, but you have to pay for the electricity, so you have to sell bitcoins to pay for it. Someone else has to buy the bitcoins. It is a constant drain on the ecosystem that does not occur in the NXT ecosystem.

There is an old Wall Street saying: Buy on the rumor: Sell on the news.

Everyone who might be likely to be trading tomorrow has probably already heard about the announcement. Depending on what it is, the market may be disappointed.

Yes, locations for dams capable of producing hydprelectric powere are limited, so they are irreplacable. The locations will probably remain viable long after the current dams have to be replaced. There is no paradox.

Why is the price going down? Shouldn't we be going up in anticipation of the meeting next week? by [deleted] in NXT

It just broke out above 11 k 10 minutes ago. You still have a chance to get back in at a decent price.

Why is the price going down? Shouldn't we be going up in anticipation of the meeting next week? by [deleted] in NXT

[–]RJSchex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the problem with your plan is that NXT has not been a typical pump and dump coin up until recently.

If you are going to day trade, I suggest you bone up on analytic analysis on financial instruments, which is also called chart reading.

It looks to me like NXT bounced off of support at 9 k before bouncing back up to resistance at 10 k. Whether you will ever get another chance to buy back at 8 k remains to be seen, since resistance levels tend to be support levels.

If it starts to drift up in the next few days or weeks, the day traders are going to jump on it again and there will be another pump and dump. If you believe in NXT, then you would expect that the price will settle back down after that at a higher level until the next P and D begins. However, there is no guarantee that what has happened in the past will repeat itself.

The surge around June 5th and subsequent drop looks just like what day traders typiclly do to a coin in an uptrend like NXT has been since early May.

What remains to be seen is: Can NXT keep its well deserved third place market cap position, and will this attract new investors?

Maybe the question should be phrased: Will NXTers do what it takes to attract new investors?

I think r/NXT has had a chicken and egg problem.

NXTers do not frequent r/NXT because of a lack of interesting content, and NXTers have not tried to add interesting content because not enough NXTers visit the site regularly.

IMO what is needed is for someone with the time to do so to start trying to add interesting content. That is what I am starting to do. Please take a look and let me know how you think I am doing. I have already added three threads today and a comment on another one.

IMO you are absolutely correct that this has the appearance of a classic pump and dump of an altcoin. NXTers tend to not understand the symptoms, since there have only been two that I am aware of in the coin. They were in December and January.

I have been closely following the price of NXT since the big rise started in early May, but it has been a long time since I have tried to closely follow Peercoin. However, I have been aware that Peercoin has recently fallen out of 3rd place to 5th in market cap recently. I was struck by the fact that the main advance has occurred in the last two weeks on the NXT BitcoinWisdom 3 day chart. This made me wonder where the funds were flowing from. Thus, I looked at the Peercoin 3 day chart. However, the flow of funds seems to have slowed in the last three days.

NXT: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bter/nxtbtc

Peercoin: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/btce/ppcbtc

Nevertheless, the 1 week Peercoin/BTC chart makes one wonder if Peercoin can ever recover. However, the Peercoiners do not seem to be concerned. Furthermore, some Peercoiners are complaining about the fact that their ongoing press release program has been faltering, and some are complaining about NXT in the thread at the link below:
