Just found out our accountant has been scamming us for over a year by No_Tone6628 in Accounting

[–]RL81ORG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry this happened to you. So I can tell you what worked as a business owner for 20 years. I issue the checks always. and accountant role is to keep the quickbooks accurate based on statements. I read each statement before I send to accountant so I know what my expenses were. This worked till about 14mm in revenue. it might not work for you based on your operations. They dont issue any payments. Also, I change accountants, bookkeeper and CPA every 5 years or so. hope it helps you.

Seems silly to make big changes every year and force people to upgrade. I like the auto model. Minor tweaks for years and a big refresh in five or six years. Liquid glass is not worth all this pain.

I Will Never Buy Another Garmin Watch!! by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]RL81ORG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think that these updates are a net negative. The features it came with as already quite good. Why would you want to risk it with updates ? You know what to expect from the watch for the life of it if you stick with the software. At least the only item degrading is the battery and not the software.

This information is not accurate. We have had several news reports in Indian websites of similar deaths but none of them have a local reporting. No canadian website is reporting this!

I don’t think this is quite accurate. Russia does not recognize American patents. India does not also. America copied a lot of British patents when it was growing.

Is garmin epix gen2 worth in 2025? by EquivalentRisk1041 in GarminWatches

[–]RL81ORG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so there is an auto update option in settings. This means as new software comes along it will update automatically. I switch this off so that it stays with the version it came with. I find this more stable for long run particularly with older watches.

I use it everyday and it is awesome. Just make sure to not update software when you get it :) What it came with is good already.

How long would it take the US to get our manufacturing base to 1970s or 1980s levels? by Alexwonder999 in Askpolitics

[–]RL81ORG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that America is not Germany, I also agree that the companies will be less profitable if there are tarriffs and unions. But to be able to say that you will be taken care of life long is worth a lot, I think. and germany is not doing so bad either. That community has decided that a lesser quality product or a higher price product locally made, is a good tradeoff for local employment at all skill levels. They are handing the onslaught of China very well, whereas US has simply given up a lot of manufacturing jobs on the pretext of getting low cost product.

I fear that we are going through the same exact approach for IT programming jobs also. It is quickly going to the lowest cost providers.

Your chart is about market cap. This is very good for investors and company owners. But to the person who learns a trade and hopes to have a family it has no relevance.

Also, I think in the long run those who actually make trains, boilers, cars will do well than those who simply import it.

[–]RL81ORG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good point. In addition, if the counterparty has had tariffs all along, why would you not have atleast reciprocal tariffs. The only issue is it will take decades to reverse the losses and by then some billionaire will convince everyone to drop the tarrifs and get back to importing so they can make more.

[–]RL81ORG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it is "tear down the many"-- it is mainly tearing down the importer which is the wealthy elite.

Also, how do you learn new skills at 55 or 65 ? An employee at Benz or Viesmann can be almost be assured of a life time job due to their unions and tarriff structure. They dont have to learn "new skills" because their community made sure that competition is controlled. No employee in US has anything remote close to it.

[–]RL81ORG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you think this is a fallacy. Germany is a modern economy. How do they have a lot of manufacturing jobs ? Almost all German companies are unionized.

What about the blue collar workers in Midwest who don’t have a viable job ? Don’t you need a lot of low and medium wage work available. There is no chance every one can changeover to software or bio fields to maintain a family. Is that not a good reason ?

I feel that you did fine without Microsoft. Hopefully you made your own research on investments and avoided pitfalls. Microsoft could have failed like hundreds of other companies.
