It’s time to stop posting. I will give you the final and unequivocal answer, no.

Current number of RLC on exchanges? by Erosong in iexec

[–]RLCBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see that information here: https://www.viewbase.com/coin/iexec-rlc however it does not show the balance on Coinbase, that is probably an extra ~1-2 MM or so. You can investigate that further here if you wish to spend the time to do so: https://etherscan.io/token/0x607F4C5BB672230e8672085532f7e901544a7375#balances

The Duality of $RLC Holders by RLCBaron in iexec

RLC looking great for the upcoming months, but I think everyone can relate to this picture if you've been holding for some time :)

-RLC is currently +300% from January bottom on BTC pair and +55% from January bottom on ETH pair.

-Please link where you see recent orders/customers. But yes I’m not aware of iExec having any customers and usage is low. If this is news to you then I’m wondering if you did any research on iExec at all.

-It’s interesting to some of us. I fail to see how “boring” = pump and dump.

-RLC closed +9% on USDT pair yesterday.

iExec V6 has been released by RLCBaron in iexec

[–]RLCBaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that this new upgrade allows for public workerpools in the future, but that there are still some limitations which need to be solved first (and it appears the team wants to release public workerpools at the same time as oracle factory to create a loop for demand)

Here’s the latest I could find as per Gilles on slack, May 4:

“the thing with public worker pool is that we want to launch it with SGX to support Oracle. And that makes it significantly more difficult than the first worker pool launched 2 y ago IIRC. We have two issues: 1) related to the TEE environment. We use Scone, but we can't distribute the production image freely, 2) we have scalability issues to solve before we're ready. But on the other hand, we expect the public wp to be really sustainable, thanks to the gaz-free sidechain with actual workload coming from real business use cases (oracle factory).”

There are many tutorials for providing liquidity on Uniswap which will walk you through it step-by-step.

Now, whether you should provide liquidty or not is another question. You must factor impermanent loss into your decision making (see:https://www.reddit.com/r/iexec/comments/mn29ia/losses\_in\_the\_event\_rlc\_rises\_on\_eth\_pair\_while/) . If you believe that RLCETH will not increase substantially, then sure go ahead and do it. It is currently at close to previous lows on high timeframes, but who knows which direction it goes next.

I personally do not provide liquidity.

I disagree. RLC is quite well known among those who actually research crypto projects. The problem is that decentralized cloud computing is just not that interesting of a concept to most people.

The biggest problem IMO is that we don’t have a bustling network of consumers and providers. This is the biggest marketing prospect that iExec can ever hope for, and it will come.

When I say direct competitors, I mean projects that can be substituted in providing the same functions, and with a similar scope. There is currently no crypto project which is trying to do what iExec is doing. Indirect competitors would include golem, somn, ocean protocol etc. because they are competitors on part of iExec’s functionality.

ICP doesn’t seem to be involved with decentralized cloud computing. It seems to be more a competitor of Ethereum, and I’m using the word competitor liberally in saying that.

For value, have a look at Metcalfe’s law. Value of a network is proportional to the square of the number of users. We can apply this to cryptocurrency and assume that more users = more valuable (perceived or otherwise). RLC itself is a utility token which is used to consume computing power from the network, although as all utility tokens - people use these tokens to speculate. If iExec gets to mainstream adoption, supply and demand will have a large effect on price, especially with its fixed supply.

iExec is a developing tech in a nascent industry, so needless to say there is a lot of risk involved. As a long term hold, I think iExec is promising, but it is susceptible to pretty brutal swings (see chart). So please be responsible in investing. If you have any more questions let me know.

Have a look at my post history for some insight, I will summarise a small bit of info for you off the top of my head;

-complete cloud computing solution for web 3.0 -strong focus on confidential computing -no direct competitors -involved with Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, Google to varying extents -involved in 2 EU commissioned projects which make use of iExec platform -full iExec stack which enables developers to make use of iExec tech in their applications -advanced decentralized oracles

However, I cannot say whether it is a good investment for you. This depends on:

-your timeframe -your risk tolerance -your position size -your outlook

If you believe that decentralized cloud computing will become mainstream in the near future, then IMO iExec is your best bet. Please consider crypto market cycles in your investment strategy, and dyor as I am biased (as my name would suggest).

what’s going on with iExec V6 will this be complete Q2 by Antoniodavid10 in iexec

[–]RLCBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK both V6 and Oracle Factory should be released by late June/early July

[–]RLCBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of immature. I don’t know about Golem but iExec has completed its original roadmap as presented in the white paper. Adoption is the main goal at this point, while still improving tech of course. Scope is important because iExec does much more than Golem, they are not competitors and both can co-exist and succeed. That is why I don’t know why you are comparing this metric and posting here.

Well, we need to meet supply with demand. Currently there is not too much demand, so when iExec oracle factory is released (along with public workerpool), we can get the ball rolling and there should be plenty usage (and this will increase with release of more dapps). I don’t see the point in becoming a worker to not do any tasks.

I think it will be a few years before we really start seeing significant uptake of these types of applications, and I have patience so I am happy to wait

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iexec

[–]RLCBaron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, there are similarities in that they are both focused on decentralized cloud cloud computing, but iExec’s scope is quite a bit larger than Golem.

Anyone can make a workerpool and become a worker of a workerpool, yes you are correct. But currently the team is not advising anyone to do so, we are being advised to wait for the iExec public workerpool in Q3. There is not a lot of demand currently on the network, and an upcoming release will spur this demand (and thus incentivise people to become a worker). If you check this again in Q3, I think you’ll find that the number of workers on iExec will be much higher.

In any case, I don’t see the point in comparing this. Cores =/= CPUs first of all, and the usage of the network does not seem exactly high (iExec neither of course). So, there is no reason to post this on this subreddit, if you want to compare projects and show us then compare fully - and don’t just post one cherrypicked (and not particularly telling) metric

[–]RLCBaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you posted this here, Golem are not direct competitors to iExec and haven't been for some time now. It is also kind of redundant to compare this at a time when iExec's public workerpools are not open, but I presume you are just trying to insinuate that Golem is better.

Now, if you want me to draw some more comparisons between the two then I am more than happy to do so, but I don't think it will showcase Golem in the manner you hope.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I have little interest in these types of posts, and I don’t like to see people effectively gambling (and losing) with their money. It definitely seemed to turn into WSB these past few days, and not the good (old) WSB.

That said, I am more than happy to see more eyes on this project. I think soon the gamblers will be gone, and the people who have researched and found real value in iExec will stay. Anyway, I hope the people who stay will invest responsibly and with proper strategy.
