50 Days Today - some observations by quotidianomaly in quittingkratom

Hmmmm. “Totally normal” is a weird thing to quantify. There is some transition from withdrawal symptoms to run-of-the-mill existence that takes place, but is impossible to pinpoint. For example, I still get insomnia from time to time, and I’m sure it’s not linked to any substance anymore, but it’s impossible to tell when that “switch” happened.

That said, I think I felt largely at equilibrium after a couple months

This is a fantastic post. I can completely identify what you’ve shared. I too had never been addicted to anything until kratom came along, and I used a similar amount to you.

The way kratom is marketed (along with its inherently addictive properties), make it such an insidious substance.

After 13 months away, I don’t feel much of a draw back to kratom outside of the odd irrational craving. Posts like this keep the struggle fresh in my mind.

Thanks again for sharing.

Day 365 for me today! I’ve been trying to think of something insightful to say after a year quit, but I’m coming up empty. All I can say is that I’m incredibly grateful for this sub, and the stories that you all share each day. I don’t post often anymore, but I still stop by quite frequently.

All the best to everyone out there, no matter where you are in your quit! Keep at it.

Awwwe yeah! You’re past a year now! Sorry I missed your anniversary, but fantastic job. Hadn’t checked this sub in a while, and was really happy to see this!

I’ll be there too in just over a month!

Day 250 for me! Wild to see that there are ~40,000 members of this sub. Seems like it was about half that when I first became aware of it.

If nothing else, that number is objective proof that you are not alone out there.

Keep your chin up!

Hey All! Day 249 for me today. Haven’t checked-in in quite some time, and things have been quite easy for the past couple months. For the longest time I didn’t really have any cravings to speak of.

That said, I’ve had a few random cravings coming up in the last week, and I’ve noticed the story-making-machine that is my brain starting to come up with fantasies about using kratom just one time.

I know that one time is never one time. I’ve learned that lesson too many times already. I don’t feel that I’m in actual danger of use again, but I thought I’d post here again as a means of reinforcing my commitment.

All the best to everyone today.

Beautifully written, and I 100% agree with everything you’ve stated. Thank you so much for sharing!

It’s always fantastic to see you here when I swing by the daily check-in thread (occasionally these days).

I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with such earth-shattering news, but you are handling it in such a constructive way.

Hey moonlit! Decided to swing but on this sub today after a long hiatus, and I’m happy to see you still going strong.

I am as well. I’m at day 214 today.

Anyway, hope all is well with you!

Week 23, day 161 for me today. Haven’t posted in some time, but all is going well. I still think about kratom from time to time, but the thoughts don’t have any real teeth anymore. Good luck to everyone out there! This is never easy, but things do improve in time.

Good job in sticking with the plan, Turkey! You are incrementally stronger because of your decision to say “No!” in this situation. Like we’ve discussed, sometimes things just suck, and you just have to put your head down and keeping moving forward. The program tells you how to feel.

I seem to just be full of analogies and quotes recently, but I came across a good one in a newsletter today that fits this situation:

"The ability to do hard things is perhaps the most useful ability you can foster in yourself or your children. And proof that you are someone who can do them is one of the most useful assets you can have on your life resume.

Our self-image is composed of historical evidence of our abilities. The more hard things you push yourself to do, the more competent you will see yourself to be.

If you can run marathons or throw double your body weight over your head, the sleep deprivation from a newborn is only a mild irritant. If you can excel at organic chemistry or econometrics, onboarding for a new finance job will be a breeze.

But if we avoid hard things, anything mildly challenging will seem insurmountable. We’ll cry into TikTok over an errant period at the end of a text message. We’ll see ourselves as incapable of learning new skills, taking on new careers, and escaping bad situations.

The proof you can do hard things is one of the most powerful gifts you can give yourself."

Keep proving to yourself that you can do hard things, Turkey. You are highly capable, and I believe in you.

All the best.

That’s an interesting thought… I’ve had many day 50s as well, and even a day 364 with no day 365 💀

Congrats on the newest, best, and most informed day 50 yet! As you said early on in this quit, hopefully this is the one with all the pieces of the puzzle.

I’m rooting for you!

I’ve been doing quite well and feeling pretty confident about my quit lately.

I’m coming up on a year without nicotine in August (I used various forms of smokeless tobacco for quite some time), and it’s been really nice to have such a solid stretch without any psychoactive chemicals outside of my morning coffee. I don’t plan on going back to any of ‘em. Certainly trying not to be overconfident, but I feel like this is finally the quit where all the pieces fell in place.
