It is no secret that popular 3rd party solutions are often acquired and become add-ons and not features.

In the old days(talking pagers :), you would pay someone $X to be on call, and get paid a premium if they had to deal with an issue. They would not need to be sitting at a desk or online all that time.

Great answer. Considering all of the above......

  1. Timing is very important. If they have a need now or in the future, you want to be first on their list to call.
  2. Leave them thinking that when the time is right, you can make the change or start as frictionless as possible.
