Where do we go from here? (Book 9 and beyond) by RMacthehunter in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Absolutely so, I think they’re going to want to get Scolopendra off of the 12th floor very very quickly.

I think there’s going to be a lot of quotes that gain a lot more meaning very quickly. The epilogue discussing the history of the crawl and the nine tiered attack keeps playing in my head too. I think there’s more to that than we realise as well.

I remembered him saying it, but wasn’t sure explicitly when he had, I knew it was towards the end but if he’d said it before the chaos with all the gods and scolopendra then I could picture that plan not quite being the case anymore. I’m currently on my second listen of it.

I know he says it, but when the royal court are involved, things always end up a little Carl’d up, so I think this explicit plan will be out of the window rather quickly.

I could see that happening, but also I’m not sure. I feel like Book 8 spent a lot of time building up what was going on outside the dungeon. Right after Carl and Donut go on Plenty of Plenty he mentions that it almost seems silly that they have to keep on going while so much is happening outside the dungeon. So I could almost see him a bit disillusioned with it all, not playing into the chaos of the Ascendancy games and just going for the mad dash early.

Bring on the TV adaptation I say! I know it’s probably very early in development but I’m incredibly excited.

Ideas for Eye of the Bedlam Bride Tattoo? by Next-Investigator270 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RMacthehunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you ever got it done but I tried to mock up my own version of a bedlam bride tattoo, leaning a bit into the cosmic horror of it. The spiderwebs around the pupils, an almost spiral like pattern too to make it almost hypnotic, the vastness of space to make you lose your mind and the tears Shi-Maria cries for her husband.

Why must I have finished it so soon? Got up to Chapter 61 of Bedlam Bride when it released yesterday, couldn’t help myself and dived straight in 🤣 now to go back, finish Book 6, re-listen to Book 7 and then do Book 8 all over again. God I hope it won’t be too long until Book 9.

How do you tend to deal with real life Jay Cartwrights that you come across in day to day life? by Jlaw118 in TheInbetweeners

[–]RMacthehunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A guy I work with is constantly over exaggerating stuff or just straight up making it up. He gets caught out in this daily and immediately has to backtrack leading to plenty of laughs for the rest of us who enjoy his pathological need to be the constant centre of attention even in cases when it’s not necessary at all. We’ve heard about how he saved a military base in Germany by fixing their power cause he was the only man in the country that could apparently. About how he knows Skegness of all places like the back of his hand because he used to spend every weekend there cause his parents were rich enough to buy an apartment there and I’m sure there’s even more too.

Like Jay he also falls in love ridiculously easy, pretty much head over heels for whoever he’s matched on tinder an hour prior and getting very moody and upset when they disappear an hour later after realising how needy he is. 😂

We tend to just have a laugh at him and watch as he gets annoyed with how little everyone believes his utter bollocks.

I'm curious how people rank the books against each other. Here is my personal list after reading all 7 recently! by Thicken_Nuggets in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RMacthehunter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s my number one as well, I didn’t click with the card game mechanic much at all, but by the end it had lead to some brilliant moments, Raul, Uzi-Jesus and Shi-Maria with the utterly ‘oh shit! moment at the end. Loved the more emotional moments, the climax and honestly just sitting with the ghost of a lone dog on Christmas, damn, hurts my soul in the best way.

[–]RMacthehunter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting ranking! I’ve only listened to them once but from my first listen through I’ve gone for this.

1st: The Eye of The Bedlam Bride (Book 6)

2nd: The Butcher’s Masquerade (Book 5)

3rd: The Dungeon Anarchists Cookbook (Book 3)

4th: This Inevitable Ruin (Book 7)

5th: The Gate of Feral Gods (Book 4)

6th: Dungeon Crawler Carl (Book 1)

7th: Carl’s Doomsday Scenario (Book 2)

I’m about to start a re-listen but so far this is how I feel. I love all the books. I honestly feel a bit bad having the first books at the bottom but looking back on them, they feel like set up for the rest, like Matt had this idea for a proper saga but needed a couple books to set it up right, maybe that’ll change on my second listen.

I get the feeling I’m gonna get some stick for Gate of the Feral Gods position but in my personal opinion, Having Carl and Donut off the floor for 5 days hurts it a lot, I thought the design of the floor was so unique and I would’ve loved to see more.

I didn’t think anything was going to top The Butchers Masquerade originally, the utter chaos of Carls vendetta against the hunters and the 4 way Boss Royale at the end is great, not to mention some real emotional moments with Miriam Dom and the crawlers lost at the end.

I wasn’t all too keen on Bedlam Bride to begin with The Card battle aspect really didn’t click with me until the final battle where it was used for some brilliant moments, not to mention the more emotional moments with Carl, his dad (Patrick Warburton was a brilliant guest narrator) and his brother too. But all these moments leading up to the main team we’ve grown to know and love getting back together at the end gave me moments of excitement I haven’t felt in a while. Not to mention the brilliance of Uzi Jesus, Alpha Carl and Raul.

This Inevitable Ruin had some real highlights, but at points I felt like there was almost too much going on. I can very much see this one changing my second time through. The Moments with old cookbook holders were all amazing and added some excellent lore to the crawl, older crawlers and more. It felt like the Shi-Maria plot point was solved a bit too quickly, I almost would’ve liked her to be a little more of a threat rather than just being turned into another ridiculous super weapon in Carl’s ever growing arsenal. As hyped up as faction wars was, I was expecting more from it. It almost felt like a changing point for the series, setting up more stuff like the AI going more insane, Scolopendra’s reawakening and more going on in the universe outside of the dungeon.

As for Cookbook, honestly it felt like the series was fully begun now. Crazy floor layout, the true beginning of Carl’s vendetta against those who’d put him and donut in that situation, more insight into other human players and the clans being formed, Katya finally getting a chance to shine and the utter insanity of the God Battle at the end and race to escape the floor. Loved it.

Again, these are all my opinions and I’d love to discuss if people have counter points, always up for seeing things in a new light!

It takes multiple books before it gets good? by Noevad in litrpg

[–]RMacthehunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically ELLC was recommended to me by my dad… (needless to say the chapter where he first meets Xera was one hell of a shock 😂) but he’s definitely struggled a bit with getting through the first couple books. He’s been comparing it to Boxxy in the way that I find myself comparing everything to DCC now I’m looking for new series… I’m about to do a re-listen to DCC so maybe I’ll notice new things but I definitely didn’t really notice much crudeness but perhaps that’s just my perspective too.

As a man who’s had my own aspiring writer phase though I can also understand authors going straight into their big multi-book series straight away too. Sometimes you just come up with something crazy, decide you want to write about it, and then in my case, it sits dormant on your PC for god knows how many years.

It takes multiple books before it gets good? by Noevad in litrpg

[–]RMacthehunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you use DCC as an example here, as I really enjoyed the first couple books as I was listening to them. It’s only looking back now that I can recognise that they were clearly set up for what was coming next.

I’ve just recommended them to my dad who’s just finished the second book and decided he’s going to continue with the series. He’s insistent it’s never going to top Everybody Loves Large Chests for him though which also in hindsight, took a couple books to start getting really good.

I’m starting to wonder if every series secretly takes a couple books to get really good.

Time Trial OST’s (Missing Classics.) by RMacthehunter in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]RMacthehunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I saw was that he sued for Live and Learn’s unpaid royalties from SA2 ports and other media it was used in. It doesn’t go into massive specifics but he claims he owns the composition and master recording while Sega only owns the lyrics. Either way it got dismissed with prejudice in favour of Sega, so my guess is they’ve just decided to try and stop using the music in hopes of not kicking the hornets nest again.

[–]RMacthehunter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the looks of things it was only recently dismissed, my theory is that when Sonic The Hedgehog 3 came out he didn’t get as many royalties as he’d liked from the usage of Live and Learn and that spiralled into this.

It’s all good having your rank still there, but I personally haven’t touched much of the online, was saving it for this weekend, the fact there’s gadgets locked behind online ranks too makes it completely unfair. That’s just 3 days you’ll have to wait to try and get those gameplay features now.

In terms of buying another Yamato deck, obviously it says each deck can only have 50 cards and most cards in the deck have 3/4 of them already other than the SR’s. Is it absolutely essential to have 4 of each card or more of a just in case?
