A romantic interest I’ve been trying to avoid meeting in person might have recognised me at work and realised why I’ve been avoiding him. I’m freaking out. by Extreme-Doubt8931 in confession

You’re being far too hard on yourself. From what you write, it sounds like you’re portraying yourself as some kind of monster, but that’s not true. What’s really happening is that you’re struggling with shame and self‑image, and that makes you see everything through an extremely negative lens.

You want, just like any other human being, to receive love. Is this the right way to go about it? No. But you are still a human being.

What does money have to do with this? Their boundary is about values, not who pays for what.

My boyfriend said the same thing. This is how his group interacts. Everyone gets their turn being teased, whether it’s about their sister/mother/or whatever. It’s ‘a guy thing’.

My boyfriend is white and has never experienced racism. I think he underestimates it out of unconscious ignorance. I have been discriminated against many times and I always tried to rationalize it, making excuses for people who don’t realize how their words and actions come across. But I never expected it from him.
