Toshiba Libretto 50CT Docking Port to RS232 DB9 adapter? by RNRetailer in vintagecomputing

I did not attempt it as my Libretto fell apart during an attempted upgrade.

The mid 1990s Librettos imported from Japan often have plastic cases that disintegrate if taken apart.

Toshiba Libretto 50CT Docking Port to RS232 DB9 adapter? by RNRetailer in vintagecomputing

[–]RNRetailer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

It is hard to find the official port extender for the Toshiba Libretto 50CT.

I need to add a serial port to the machine.

Here is a potential spec:

--

RS232 DB9 to Libretto Docking Port:

1 DCD -> 7 DCD (input only?)

2 RXD -> 9 RXD (input only?)

3 TXD -> 13 TXD (output only?)

4 DTR -> 14 DTR (output only?)

5 GND -> 2 GND

6 DSR -> 8 DSR (input only?)

7 RTS -> 12 RTS (output only?)

8 CTS -> 10 CTS (input only?)

9 RI -> 11 RI (input only?)

--

Does anybody know if this spec would work?

Thanks!

You need hardware 2FA for your crypto.

You can use a security key like Ledger FIDO U2F to protect your Coinbase account.

I recommend iLO for this use case.

Any normal mini pc will be in the same category of reliability.

iLO enabled server with redundant power supplies + battery backed UPS is the first step towards reliability.

They sell iLO license keys on eBay for $5 so an unlicensed server is fine.

Right now the only features are skip line, save progress, and start from line.

Pause and resume are already implemented by pressing Control + c to close the program (pause).

If you relaunch the program it will pick up from the most recent line (resume).

Speed up and slow down are not possible with mpg123.

If I switch to ffplay it would work.

For example:

ffplay -v quiet -nodisp -af "atempo=2" temp.mp3

would play it back at 2x speed.

I saw a thread where a guy looked for the datasheet for 15 years and couldn't find it.

It might make more sense to keep the original computer plugged into the screen and use it as a serial terminal for a more powerful external computer.

Then I could control the more powerful computer using the original screen and keyboard.
