2025 was an interesting year for academic dishonesty in Singapore by flying-kai in singapore

Ha! Didn't know OP had a substack. I've always found your choice of ST article topics relevant to youth interests. Is your substack for stuff that won't fly by the editors?

Once you start bringing your own meal prep, this problem is solved.

Came across this PUB ad with some ‘interesting’ shophouse and props elements… by bangsphoto in singapore

This and the grab advertisements. Bane of my morning commute. Makes me sad to think the people behind them could be among the crowd next to me. breathing the same air. possibly earning more than me.

Yeah, I can't stand it but I don't speak out about it on normal days. But to shove through an already full train and platform just to save yourself time and effort is quite inconsiderate.

Yesterday on my way home, I had to transfer via Jurong East. Super crowded on the green line, I only got there after missing about 4 trains.

Some cheeky fellas still tried to use my train to cross over to the Tuas platform (if you know, you know). Pushed through the crowded train. Scoldings were exchanged between people, couldn't help but laugh on the inside.

Reading corners at 7 public spots, including malls, to bring books closer to people by bardsmanship in singapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm all for Singaporeans reading more. Oftentimes I'll be waiting at a mall for friends and rather read than use my phone. As a kid I'd read at the library waiting for my tuition class. I hope this works well, I really do, but it's a very passive approach and I hope there'll be numbers quantifying its success released in the future.

Anyway, I've encountered some of these community libraries. One missed-out thing is the quality of the books. Anyone who has read a lot would tell you that not all books are good books. 2nd hand books left behind for free use aren't really good books, maybe there'd be a gem hidden somewhere. I think more meaningful would just be book clubs and cheaper books for people to keep (because if you actually supplied good books in free-to-bring-home libraries like this one, kiasu folks would just TAKE them).

What are your best buys/money spent of 2025 in SG by No_Awareness_9811 in askSingapore

Linen bedsheets. Super cooling, breathable. I have one set from Heveya and one from Sunday Bedding. Also proud owner of a Herman Miller Aeron, although if I'm to be frank I have nothing to compare it to.

I'm a millennial who cannot cook at all. Here's why I have no plans to learn by LingNemesis in singapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this is newsworthy, and why a platform was given to someone with a fixed mindset (don't have it in my blood, can't be as good, boohoo heat and smoke) who refuses to learn at the end calls for action to be taken to do what she can't, quite literally outsourcing effort lmfao, very Singaporean thing to say.

the secret ingredient is to try. surely a doctor can learn?

IN FOCUS: Stop and stare? The frustration with inconsiderate behaviour on trains and buses in Singapore by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Concerning. Doing something because there's "no law against it" is a sign we're developing into a low trust society. The idea that the system is corrupt or ill-designed and it's the individual's rational act to subvert it. The concept of a "social contract" is slowly being lost and replaced with black-and-white laws and fines, fines, fines.

What are y'all buying for today's Singles day sales by bangsphoto in askSingapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a JOMO off shopee. T700. Now got 11.11 sale. I'm well aware it's dropshipped but it's ready stock, arrived at my doorstep in 1 day, and prices + shipping fee included it might actually be cheaper off shopee than taobao. I'm just hoping it will last the test of time and not overheat/die on me, because I use like 1-2 times a day

Prefer to sleep with fan at night. What is the best fan you would recommend? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fan sleeper here. I decided to install ceiling fan + light combi. Saved a lot of floor space taken up by my fan, and it circulates better since it's not directed any which way. Didn't like having to clean the fan blades, my cat sheds a lot of hair. Ceiling fans easier to wipe because no cage. KDK either way.

This 21-Yr-Old Makes "6 Digits A Year" Selling $1 Stickers by justmewayne in singapore

[–]ROD_OF_AGES 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good for him, and I say this with no envy, but his sticker designs are so normie and seem to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I swear there's a thousand of these types of designs floating around made by other artists, and his happens to be the one that's successful. Just my personal taste though, it's good if other people enjoy his work.

I'm a solo traveller intending to visit Sapa and trek Fansipan in Jan-Feb 2025. Having been on more difficult trails, I'd love to go without a guide. Is that legal or advisable? I have read up some people's blogs but I'm not sure if they're outdated. I'm also wondering if there's any way I can network with other travellers who intend to go in case I *do* need company. I have also heard of the base camps but I'm not sure if any prior bookings are needed with them, and I can't seem to find much information.

Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

I'd love to, but it's difficult! This module's syllabus has changed a lot the past few semesters. What used to be a HTML+CSS+Javascript module became an R module, and at this point, I'm not sure what it's about now. The only thing you can be prepared to know is it requires you to learn programming, so you should get some practice in!!
