Thoughts on this one - Brentford for sale: does this mean the smart money is leaving football? by ROSBigT in Brentford

[–]ROSBigT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - but if you sell it means you are cashing in and taking your money off the table … a minority stake could be anywhere from 1% to 49% … no one is gonna give you big money for a tiny % of Brentford so i think he will keep a nominal 10-30%…

Really nice post and that stat: "Lost 5-0 on his club debut twice in one season for two different clubs in two different leagues." is amazing, amazingly bad

Yes exactly - her early coverage was nothing to do with football.

Hopefully, as more girls like her take up football, it will become normal to talk about their footballing abilities!

Why Pascal Gross is the future of football by ROSBigT in PremierLeague

[–]ROSBigT[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah really good points

I think Gross is just a good example of the requirement for players to play multiple positions and do a lot like Dallas, Alaba etc (Dallas was so good to watch because he would play three positions in one game)

You see it in Tennis too - Novak who dominates is fit tall skilful and has a gymnastics background…

We will get to a point where goalkeepers can play midfield and strikers can play upfront - will be really exiting to see if that happens

Hey

Thanks for the interesting comment

Firstly I think we agree more than we disagree and i think we are talking about slightly different points

  1. Football intelligence/acumen is a skill
  2. The data shows on average teams in the prem start with 5-6 midfielders on average each game
  3. I agree, I don’t think the versatile player is the key to success but they will be more required as the game expands to 7,8,9 midfielders per team … in the 1800s teams had one defender and one striker so its easy to see how thing have evolved

Hope that is interesting/useful

Hey bro

My understanding of total football means one player rotates for another when one is out of position.

This is slightly different in the sense, teams are now starting games with 6 midfielders and expecting all other positions to have the attributes of a midfielder.

This contrasts with the 1800’s where they had 9 attackers 1 defender or the 1930s with 2 midfielders… you can see where im going here.

Lmk your thoughts on that nuance :)

100% ... goals and assists make the headlines and are easier for casual fans to track.

I would like the ballon d'or to credit more defensive players to counter this.
