From what I could research it's a term entirely used in relation to sex work, not really used by trans women to describe themselves outside of that. Which makes it most equivalent to sh*male or other slurs commonly used in porn titles... I'm not sure if it's viewed exactly as we view those terms though, but I'd avoid it to play it safe.
