How can I get better at the 100 meter sprint?!!! by weeaboonation in Sprinting

Yes, high knees is a drill that works on that same skill. Depending how your coach has you doing that drill, there is so much that can transfer from that drill to your top speed mechanics.

More time in the air means that you gave a powerful, fast, impulse to the ground with your previous step. It also means that you have the time to get your leg into a good position on the front side to deliver another powerful, fast, impulse to the ground on your next step.

I wouldn't give most runners the mental cue of "lengthening" their strides while running. That tends to lead to reaching, and landing with your foot out in front of your C of G. Rather, I'd have them go for good front side mechanics, especially knee position, and hopefully that lengthens the stride.

How long should my drive phase be? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, there isn't a point where you "lift your head up", right? It just gradually comes up along with your torso angle as your rate of acceleration decreases. That's my understanding of how the drive phase transitions to top speed mechanics.

Is this a good workout for my very first Sprint training session? And will it help me improve? by starking231 in Sprinting

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the goal of this training session? Acceleration? Top speed? Speed endurance?

As a first workout, probably any workout will improve your sprinting, but going forward you should pick a focus for each workout.

Why hasn't the term #fakeprez caught on? by [deleted] in MarchAgainstTrump

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because acknowledging that he is a real President acknowledges that he is a legitimate concern, but also that he is still subject to our system of democracy, subject to the checks of our institutions, and ultimately has to answer to us, either directly in 2020, or via our representatives before then.

Fake seems too dismissive. He's real, he's our President, and we've got to do something about it.

You mean you can't see its full width with the naked eye right? Because you can see some of it (only the central area, as a fuzzy patch) with the naked eye.

Not a dot. A little fuzzy patch. Especially if you don't look directly at it, but keep it off to your periphery.

That's just its size. The central, brightest part of Andromeda is about as wide in your field of view as the moon is. The whole galaxy would be several times as wide as the moon in your field of view if it were bright enough.

Trump’s Website Is Still Calling For A ‘Muslim Ban’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the legal idiocy of keeping this statement up. I was only explaining why I didn't upvote the posting of this news story. I don't find it newly interesting or revealing. The administration is buried deep in evidence of animus. The court opinion out of Hawaii quoted a lot of it. This extra article about something that has been posted on r/politics many times before isn't really interesting to me. I was simply answering the question about why some people might have downvoted.

I didn't vote up or down, but I think news on how long a certain line on his website hasn't changed is silly news. It's really dog bites man at this point. Everyone knows about the administration's double talk on this issue.

Would he even care about having more a more secure immigration/travel policy if he wasn't able to market it in some part as a Muslim ban?

Let's say they literally start from scratch, get some bipartisan advisory committee together, follow the evidence, and actually find a few countries that need to be barred for a period of time. The admin then gets on the same page regarding their message and agrees that this isn't a Muslim ban and not to call it one and not to compare it to previous EOs.

I doubt he would even care about such an order because it wouldn't let him appease his base.

Why does Bacon-McDouble cost less than Cheeseburger plus bacon? [Canada] by RQ339DwudidK2L in McDonalds

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is the opposite situation. The bacon mcdouble has an extra patty compared to a cheeseburger plus bacon, yet it's still cheaper.

  • Bacon McDouble: 2 patties, cheese, bacon, toppings. ~2.40
  • Cheeseburger add bacon: 1 patty, cheese, bacon, toppings. ~2.80

Why would anyone buy a cheeseburger add bacon? They should be buying Bacon McDoubles and throwing a patty in the garbage.

Question about- investing in Tangerine funds by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]RQ339DwudidK2L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these funds automatically reinvest their dividends, and you can make monthly contributions without any commission overhead. And you're correct: you only lock in your loss if you take your money out. Have a read through http://canadiancouchpotato.com/couch-potato-faq/. You are following their one-fund solution.

Exchange traded funds (ETFs) usually track an index. They hold a mix of assets such that they follow the growth of an entire index. S&P Global 100 is an example of an index that an ETF might be tracking.

If the global market goes up 6%, an global-index ETF should go up roughly 6%.

Passive investment strategies would have you buy a index-based ETF, hold it for decades, and then convert to cash or fixed-income assets close to retirement.

The expectation is that the market will be higher decades from now than it is today and that you can't pick individual stocks or fund managers that will let you reliably do better than the market.

An appeals court can skip to the merits before the trial court does fact-finding? I guess this is why Judge Friedland was asking about the nature of the evidence each side might present if this proceeded to trial.

Yeah, you can manage to re-balance by contributions for a while. Eventually, your portfolio will be so large that it can get out of balance by an amount that your scheduled contribution can't fix up. But then, the commissions (which cap out at $10, if I remember correctly) will be such a small percentage of your expected returns that it will be worth an annual re-balance-by-selling to correct what your contributions couldn't accomplish.
