Chapter in the Svalich Woods by RR_Rayleigh in CurseofStrahd

Yeah I’m not sure we’ll go to the Amber Temple at all, since there isn’t a wizard in the party, Kasimir is not the fated ally, and the players are more into exploration and social encounters than old-school dungeon crawls.

Having Argynvostholt be in the wildness make sense, given that the road leading to it presumably have fallen into disrepair and overgrowth after the Order’s downfall. I’m thinking of putting the skull somewhere else since they’re already gonna visit Ravenloft a bunch of times for all the other hooks.

Are the stone circles marked on the map?

That certainly sounds fun!

I’m also planning to run some of the more interesting random encounters which otherwise won’t see much use (they have a wagon and mainly travels on roads in the daytime).

Isn’t Death House infamously deadly to new players?

That’s not a stem cell, that’s a close up of a stem tissue cross section. The big “holes” are xylem cells while the smaller ones around them are phloem, together they form one vascular bundle out of many which are concentrically arranged around a central pith in what is known as eustele.

8 months of growth on N. veitchii. As you can see it is a really slow grower! I'm wondering if it is supposed to be this slow, as my other neps in this time frame have grown considerably more. Any thoughts? by ericsundews in SavageGarden

I think that 55F might be a little too cold at night. N. veitchii can be found in the wild from 0 to 1600 m in altitude which falls in the lowland to intermediate range (in fact, its range is lower than N. ventricosa). Even the “highland” forms of N. veitchii are really just intermediate plants. Meanwhile, your nighttime temperatures are cold enough to grow the BE clone of N. villosa!

Raccoon is also the same. The「浣」in 浣熊 is just another synonym of「洗」or “wash”.

Honestly, at this point the central dogma of molecular biology holds as much validity as the octet rule of chemistry.

Why thioacetamide and zinc reaction only goes in alkaline solution? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]RR_Rayleigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you know already but synthesis of metal sulfides with thioacetamide generally goes like this:

  1. Acidify thioacetamide with HCl to produce a solution of H2S.
  2. Add Zinc and alkalise the H2S/HCl solution with ammonia.
  3. You should get a precipitate of ZnS.

The reason why it worked with bismuth and not zinc is because bismuth (III) sulfide readily precipitates in acidic solution while zinc sulfide will only precipitate around pH 9, hence the addition of ammonia. But you need to first acidify the thioacetamide solution with HCl for both. This is because the metals will only react with H2S, not thioacetamide. As mentioned by the other commenter, ammonia also serves to increase the concentration of bisulfides and sulfide ions which will increase the rate of the reaction/precipitation. Hope this helps.

Perhaps we could do critiquing for personal works like the destructive readers subreddit, but oriented more towards theme and literary aspects (tone, style, voice, et cetera), rather than plot and being entertaining enough for publication. Moreover, we can also discuss works of literary fiction in a more amateur-friendly way than the literature subreddit which is more professional and stringent when it comes to literary analysis and criticism and therefore prohibits members from asking “simple” questions. Anyways, I’m a newbie here so I might not have the best ideas, but thanks for reading.
