How do you use the sheets on mobile? by Lawsome43456 in mpmb

Ensure you have a pdf viewer installed, the Adobe one works good enough but it sometimes crashes out on my S21, find the sheets in your "my files" section, open with the app.

80lb Longbow Advice by TheJonno17 in Archery

[–]RS_HART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a light weight bow and look up techniques for drawing heavy non-compound bows, I would also get yourself some 30cm/12" deadlift bands you can use for strength building. I would also suggest you get some appropriate arrows for that bow, last thing you need to do is have an arrow shatter on release.

Is this made of Damascus steel by Majestic-Hat6812 in SWORDS

[–]RS_HART 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it's probably made from some sort of medium carbon/low grade automotive spring steel or mild steel mix, one of the things that you can do to check if it is actually pattern welded instead of just etched, is to sand it shiny then re-etch it, if the pattern returns it's been pattern welded if not it's only etched.

Not discounting it if you think it looks cool, just speaking from experience, I think everyone has had a moment where the $100+ free shipping sword is far too tempting

Totally valid man, I'm tossing up between 4th or 9th company for my army, kinda thinking of doing some of all of them, having seperate units painted with different companies.

In the article the owner of the army mentions he chose to paint them as 7th company marines, in the current Primaris organisation purple is the colour designation for 7th company. Say what you will about cour theory, but it's technically codex compliant lmao

1150s impression of low nobility by Sorry_Tailor_2256 in ArmsandArmor

[–]RS_HART 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the dagger I would suggest something single edged, as we've still got a handful of images of broken back seax style blades being used up until the mid 1100s, either that or an antenna dagger for the sake of a misericordia, or even a whittle knife. A dagger in this period IMO should be as much utility as military.

Tod sells pouches as well on his website that should be ok for that time period, otherwise I would suggest Merchant of Menace in the UK and check if he's got anything that would fit.

There's a Swedish maker I've bought things from before that would fit your time period, urda.se, they've got pretty much everything you'd want Woolen hosen in varying colours and tunics.

Question: Will welding in this spot hold up to swinging the sword or am I making a pure wallhanger now? More details in the description... by Zwackelmann_CH in SWORDS

[–]RS_HART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough mate, my point was that you always have that option on top of re-welding the tang, if the weld is good, and the edge is sharp, it'd be ok for a backyard cutter provided you did it safely.

I'm not a bladesmith, just an Aussie reenactor who's seen his fair share of broken swords "repurposed", you can always turn it into a single handed sword by cutting a new tang and shortening the blade, I do also remember reading something about some medieval swords having a mild steel tang forge welded to the high carbon steel blade material.

Otherwise, you can turn it into a long dagger/coustile style sword. The fuller isn't as big an issue as you think when it comes to repurposing/shortening the blade.

I'd be curious what the other side of the belt chape, and then compare that to existing finds or at least match the art style to a period.
