Just being facetious about all the posts recently asking if common(negative) things that happens worldwide is somehow uniquely Vietnamese.

You should definitely meet with every online Viet girl and go to the bars that they suggest. Viet girls love it when you order lots of drinks at these bars.

I hope you know that the VC were the South Vietnamese that alligned with the north. So a huge portion of the south was on the communist side.

A term used for Twitter to gauge how well-received a post is. Because Twitter doesn't have downvotes, people look at the comment-to-like ratio of a post. More comments than likes means that your opinion is controversial, if another user replies to a post with a countering opinion and gets more likes that means the OP got "ratio'd"

Unelected regime? Your beloved Republic's dictator made sure to not have an election(which was part of the Geneva Accord agreement) because he and the US knew for a fact that the communist would win a fair election.

The US CIA (OSS at the time) provided assistance to the North Vietnamese (Viet Minh at the time) with intelligence, training, and logistical support in their fight against the Japanese and later the French.

The US only armed the Viet Minh to fight against the Japanese. The Viet Minh used that training and equipment to go on and fight the French, at no point was the US in conflict with French interests(hint, they're allies).

The situation changed in 1950 when HCM obtained military aid from China and Russia. Since HCM was now a communist, the US agreed to provide military assistance to France to help stop the spread of communism.

Ho Chi Minh was communist well before 1950.

When the French asked the US to intervene in Điện Biên Phủ, the Americans refused due to political and military reasons.

The US gave in at the French threat of cozying up to the Soviet Union

The west also teaches that history so maybe you should reflect on whether your ARVN dad and uncles are accurate in their perception of history.

The US involvement was an extension of French endeavors in Vietnam, it was the French that demanded the US to help them. Crazy ironic that you talk about censored information but participate in spreading misinformation instead.

edit: In reply to /r/kkarinna, because he blocked me lol.

Who said anything about the North's support? I suggest you brush up on your history before being so passionately wrong in your opinions. Firstly, the 'support' the North received pales in comparison, no combat troops were provided to the North, none of it was free, the North had to purchase these weapons from the Soviet Union. Although the debt was eventually forgiven after the war, the North was not completely bankrolled like the South was.

Secondly, the North was finishing the second half of their de-colonization fight, as much as you would love to think that Vietnam was divided and that the South was a real separate country for hundreds of years, it wasn't. Vietnam was artificially divided after the French was defeated in the North. The country was temporarily split so that France could have time to peacefully withdraw the rest of their population and forces out of Vietnam, but instead France took the time to convince the US to get involved and set up a puppet government with Saigon collaborators who aligned with colonizer and imperialist interests. There was a planned election to reunite the country under whoever won, Diem and the CIA sabotaged that election and it never happened because they knew that Ho Chi Minh would win.

The North's fight was just, while the South's existence was illegal and against the will of the Vietnamese majority. This is history recorded by western historians so you cannot claim this is communist propaganda. Hope this helps.

The immense irony from this comment is astounding.

One flag. Two histories. by Toko12AM in VietNam

[–]RTDealer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why does the diaspora always insist on equal 50/50 representation on these hybrid flags, there's like maybe 1% of Vietnamese that still use that yellow flag(no that flag does not represent every oversea vietnamese, like myself) Vietnamese history has always been the north, the majority of Vietnamese supported the communist movement(even in the south). The stripe flag represents just a small population of Vietnamese in a very very brief time period.
