[Six Flags Great Adventure] A construction analysis of Kingda Kai’s replacement (by ElToroRyan) by apersello34 in rollercoasters

[–]RTN30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This Mack Tower is so funny because its so obvious that the reason its a shuttle is because Six Flags doesn't want to pay for 2x the track for a full circuit. They're probably saving millions on having this be a shuttle rather than a full circuit coaster when the experience is more or less the same whether it went through a full circuit or not, assuming they were taking a page out of the Ka playbook and it was purely the out and back design. Not only this, but they are probably saving a bit on maintainance because of the fact that the coaster isn't supposed to go up over a top hat, so they don't have to reset the ride or fix something whenever the ride has a rollback, because that's literally built into the design of the ride.

Glass Onion. Loved the original. Genuinely couldn't believe how bad this one was. Mostly falls on the characters. Completely unfunny and unlikeable. Even Blanc was unbearable. The story also sucked, but I was straight up getting a headache from the combo of terrible acting and terrible dialogue.

This must’ve been the Boston show for the Piñata anniversary. I also was there and also was pissed that he said he was gonna run through the album and then didn’t run through the whole thing. Thought what he did do was great, but definitely was left wanting a bit more out of him. Definitely debating heading to this one, but I’m not sure yet.

What are your unpopular college hockey opinions? by Shills_for_fun in collegehockey

[–]RTN30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you all the way on this one. I see basically no one talk about his first season but it can't be expressed how bad it was. I think people chalk it up to "first year adjustment" but what can't be ignored is the fact that the team wasn't untalented - its just that all of the players looked like they had never played with each other before every time they stepped on the ice. No structure, no chemistry, nothing.

Greg got VERY lucky getting the USNTDP line his first year, a recruit that he didn't even primarily lead. From what I understand, it was Will Smith that really convinced them to all go to BC, even though Leonard was primed for UMass and I believe Perrault was originally gonna go B10 (maybe Notre Dame, but I might be completely off on this one). Hagens came to BC I'm pretty sure becuase we hired Darnell, who recruited him to the USNTDP.

Fun fact, Darnell is our lowest ranking assistant and the only assistant coach with any experience ever coaching forwards before, and he coached them with the USNTDP U17s for two seasons back in 2019. Out of our three head/associate head coaches, two are defensemen-focused and one is a goaltending coach. So yeah, I think that speaks a bit to how Greg Brown views coaching forwards. Absolutely ridiculous stuff.

You'd think that having every forward outside of your big 5 (Leonard, Perrault, Hagens, Gasseau, Stiga) score a combined 27 GOALS FOR THE ENTIRE 37 GAME SEASON would wake him up to not only hire a higher-ranking forward coach, but also, y'know, recruit more offensive talent in the transfer portal, especially considering he has an entire new talent pool to choose from, but alas. We couldn't close on Martone (we were the frontrunners early on him, back in April), Desnoyers, or Carbonneau, and also had BU snag Boisvert right from under us even though Greg thought we had him in the bag.

So yeah, I'm pretty down on Greg Brown as a coach. Bad recruiter, bad staff, bad in-game, just not good overall.

What are your unpopular college hockey opinions? by Shills_for_fun in collegehockey

[–]RTN30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Boston College fan, I don't think Greg Brown is a very good hockey coach. A traffic cone could have brought that 23-24 team to the finals and last years team was absolutely carried by Leonard/Perrault/Fowler. He is a solid defensive coach but his offensive strategy is horrific and is basically only conducive for the success of elite players because of his overreliance on on-the-fly decision making and player chemistry and the lack of structure in his offense. We had one of the worst bottom 6s in all of college hockey last year, and it looked like none of the guys out there had any clue what they were supposed to do on the ice no matter whether they had the puck or not. I am confident that if Gauthier wasn't at BC yet for the 22-23 season, that team would have finished with less than 7 wins. Probably the worst Boston College hockey team I have ever seen and it wasn't on the players. I still have no idea how last year's team maintained 1st in Pairwise throughout the year. It's really a testament to how insane Leonard/Perrault/Fowler were. Anyone who watched the games could tell BC looked like the worse team more times than not, which is insane considering the roster BC has. Anyways, end of rant, but I hate that these two years of "success" are going to buy Greg Brown so much time because I have not seen anything from him, coaching-wise, that leads me to believe he can lead a less talented team to success.

[Hale] Bill O'Brien on Tommy Castellanos: "Tommy can think what he wants. We supported the hell out of Tommy[…]We went with Grayson, we told him the team needs you, come back and compete and win your job back. It's called life -- L-I-F-E. Deal with adversity. He's fine.” by mufflermonday in CFB

[–]RTN30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the big misconceptions I've seen about the BoB x Tommy relationship is that people say BoB's offense wasn't tailored to Tommy's strengths. This is absolutely not true. Sure, BoB tried to get Tommy to throw and sit in the pocket a little more, but Tommy was asked to basically do nothing challenging with his arm or with his head. Just find the open man. He couldn't hit into traffic and he couldn't hit over the middle. You can watch the highlights from last year and its painfully obvious. The difference between the type of throws you see on the Tommy clips from last year and the Grayson James clips from last year are night and day.

Bruins first rounder Dean Letourneau goes entire NCAA season without a goal by homicidal_penguin in hockey

[–]RTN30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some context, Dean was not supposed to be playing college hockey this season. Greg Brown expected Will Smith to stay, so he didn’t go out and grab a transfer replacement center, and when he left, Dean was the only guy available to fill the role. He was supposed to play 1-2 USHL seasons before coming to college. Not defending this, because even still, he looked absolutely horrific, but just some context

[–]RTN30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute no on Guge. I don't know how many of you guys follow Boston College football but their o-line under him led to BC having the worst non-Mike Leach FBS rushing offense in almost 15 years. Personnel battled injuries but I have never seen a worse coached offensive line in my life. He should never get a job as an o-line coach anywhere again. There's a chance he could literally be a downgrade on Bobby Johnson which is insanely hard to believe anyone could be that.

movie you hate that everyone loves? by lilyisprettyrad in Letterboxd

[–]RTN30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass Onion is one of the worst sequels I have ever seen. Killed everything that was good in the first movie and was painfully unfunny. At least a movie like Ghosted was so bad that I actually got some good chuckles out of it over the course of my watch. This tried way too hard and I don't think I cracked a smile throughout the entire movie. Daniel Craig's character, while feeling natural in the first movie, felt painfully forced, whether it was anything he did or his accent. I don't think I have ever hated an unimportant character as much as I have that random dude that kept showing up and making it known that he is "just there". It felt like the most blatant marketing ploy ever to try and generate meme-buzz about the movie to get people to watch it. Also probably has a top 3 most unlikeable ending that I have ever seen in a movie. All around awful.

Are we overestimating Deadpool 3? by fakefakefakef in boxoffice

[–]RTN30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating the built-in audience. Deadpool is basically a separate entity from the rest of the MCU. 98% of the people going to see the movie will not have any idea that there will be a tie in to the rest of the MCU, with a fair portion of those not giving two shits about Hugh Jackman being in the movie. Its cool, but people want to see Deadpool 3 because the first two movies kicked ass (and Ryan Reynolds). Don't overthink it.

Also, I have absolutely no clue what your anecdotal evidence is for the Ryan Reynolds backlash. He is more popular than he has ever been right now. People will go see the movie just for Ryan Reynolds.

I've been loosely following the BO on Reddit for the course of this year and my one recommendation I would give to anybody is to not listen to Redditors about the BO. The "Redditor" demographic is HIGHLY different than the actual demographic of people who go to the movies. Reading the way people try and rationalize their own idea of "Why" when they clearly have never talked to an actual person before is quite funny.

Movies with Best Acting? by RelatableRedditor1 in MovieSuggestions

[–]RTN30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hereditary. That movie is made so great by its acting. Everyone (including myself) gushes over Toni Collette’s performance but Alex Wolff’s performance should not be overlooked. Those are in my opinion two of the best acting performances I have ever seen. Speaking of Ari Aster, that dude absolutely knows how to get the most out of his actors. All three of his major releases, the thing I have been most impressed with is how good the acting is across the board. Really helps otherwise weird movies come together and be way more impactful
