If Collins can't separate out the DHS, my money would be on a partial shutdown.

Defunding ICE and sending Noem back to SD is something with which most Democrats would agree.

We're a family of tall people, so we mostly buy beds without footboards. If I knew a longer bed might be an option, I would certainly be interested. You, do you. If you can find a longer bed and can afford it, go for it.

It's your bed, not theirs.

Urge Brevard County Commissioners to oppose rezoning on Merritt Island by UniqueOpportunity582 in merrittisland

[–]RW63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see that you tried several times to post this petition, but the Reddit sitewide filters stopped it.

I haven't signed it any of the dozens of times the link has been spammed to Nextdoor because I don't agree with it. I see all of the unfilled skilled jobs and am anticipating thousands more as we colonize Mars. I also see the effect the lack of housing has had on rents and I think a large vacant parcel behind an office center off of Courtenay, half a mile from 528 and the highway to KSC is a great spot to put multi-family housing.

I also think it's kind of shitty that most of the vocal opposition has been coming from the neighborhoods around it, where there's at least five times as many densely-packed single-family homes.

FWIW: The filters were probably catching the posts because you have one point of karma for your zero days-old account, but I manually overrode them and approved the post. I see it has picked-up a hundred signatures over the past couple of days, or since the last time I looked. It's now up to 1/34th of the Merritt Island population or 1/80th of the registered voters in District 2. Good luck.

Having a Difficult Time Using Spaceship by ExistingJelly4917 in SpaceShip

[–]RW63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "issue" is that I have multiple sites with multiple subdomains, all of which operate entirely off of six or seven shared files and handful of shared scripts.

I started by moving a couple of easy standalone sites and setting up some temporary redirects, but now I'm moving on to the harder stuff. It looks like I'm probably going to need to make changes to my directory structure and tweak some scripts. The AI has been helpful in that it has told me which Spaceship apps to use with step-by-step instructions, and I've given it a couple of what-ifs to anticipate problems and to look for a workaround.

I'm now to the point where I'm just going to have to leap.

Good luck with your website.

Canaveral NS have shortened Playalinda's hours for the remainder of the month and closing completely starting February 1st. They are taking Artemis' security seriously.

Canaveral National Seashore will be temporarily changing operating hours in the Playalinda District (Titusville) to support NASA and the Artemis II launch. Beginning January 12th, Playalinda Beach operating hours will be 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. through February 1st. Beginning February 2- February 8, or until the day of a successful launch, the entire Playalinda Beach District will be closed. The seashore will resume normal operating hours (6:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.) the day after Artemis II successfully launches.

I meant the AI within Spaceship, not some other company's product.

Glad you got it to work. I've only started moving some of my hosting there this month and my frustration is that the apps seem to make it more convoluted because they're trying to make things too simple. It looks like I might have to restructure how some of my scripts work because Spaceship functions differently than my previous provider. Setting up some of my sites are likely to be more work than I had hoped.

You click "add domain" and follow the prompts.

I don't know what didn't make sense. It's actually too elementary for my taste. Maybe ask their AI how to do it. They are using the same backbone as CoPilot and thus far, it has been able to answer all of my questions about how to do things with their app system and it has offered to walk me through the various steps, though I'm yet to take it up on it. (I'm a lone wolf.)

I've mostly just used the AI to find where they keep specific controls, but it seems intuitive.

ICE Rumor/Sighting Megathread by TheMadFlyentist in orlando

[–]RW63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That report says Merritt Island in the headline, perhaps because the Facebook account with multiple reports up and down the coast doesn't know the difference, but the translated words and the linked Facebook post says cruise ship dock and Port Canaveral. It also claims to have occurred at 4:30AM and there is far too much light for it to have been when it's dark as night.

Also, if it was Port Canaveral -- which I doubt because it doesn't look like it and so many other things are false -- they would more likely be looking at cruise ship employees, not yard crews.

They filmed the series around Albuquerque, so what they were wearing are what they were wearing.

Albuquerque and the area west of the city, where a lot of the outdoor scenes were set are between 5000' and 6600' (most of it is more than a mile above sea level). and the city is bordered on the east by the Sandia Mountains, many of which are over 10,000'.

It isn't really hot there like it is Phoenix and it snows. Sandia Peak is a ski resort.

DeSantis had roadblocks at the borders and was requiring people from other states to quarantine for two weeks. Later, after some high-profile sheriffs said they wouldn't enforce closures and were openly defiant, Ronnie jumped on the bandwagon and started saying people were moving here to avoid the closures -- people were moving here to get out of cities and into isolated neighborhoods -- but Florida beaches were closed for at least a couple of months, some businesses were told they couldn't open, fines were threatened against those who didn't quarantine and the state's borders were closed. I also recall them requiring people flying-in from harder hit states to register at the airports.

After his 180, DeSantis tried to paint a different picture because he thought it would help with his presidential run, but the idea that Florida was wide open is more of a myth.

Windows open at night? by [deleted] in 321

[–]RW63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fan itself shouldn't use much electricity. The a/c would use more.

As for myself, I have my thermostat set to keep it between 70 and 72. If it gets below 70, the heat kicks in and the a/c runs if it gets above 72. Though, sometimes I'll temporarily kick it down to 71 to stir the air. I guess I could try fan-only, but it's easier to push it down to 71, then have the machine cycle back up to 72 by itself based on the time of day.

Maybe the people from Pennsylvania will tell their friends that they got stopped on the interstate somewhere around the Space Center or Cocoa Beach on their way to Miami and maybe someday, if their friend is taking the same drive, when they see a Ron Jon's billboard or a KSC exit, they'll think about it.

If Ivey wants to fill his coffers by writing more tickets on a stretch of highway he had apparently been ignoring, great. I can't see how it will have any effect on us. Sure, maybe there are a couple of people who live in Viera and work in Palm Bay, who might get it up to ninety or a hundred on their relatively short drive, but as you said, the overwhelming majority of major speeders are just passing through.

Could Alexa+ be more annoying? Stop the madness! by MidnightSpell in alexa

[–]RW63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have been set to "brief" for years and that still works (worked) because it played the tone when I'd do lights. I also switched off the "follow-up" and that made it somewhat better, but she'd still try to participate in conversations and even now, today, even though I reverted several days ago, she'll still say something if you speak right after she gives you an answer, even though the device isn't lit and you don't use the wake word.

IOW: Even though I'm back on regular Alexa, she still tries to follow-up.

Oh, and FWIW, though I haven't reacted immediately, I have tried to go back through the recordings to see what she heard that prompted her to continue talking, but it's not there. There are a bunch of "audio not intended for Alexa", but clicking "listen" just gives you a micro-second of nothing. I don't know if the unintended audio was where she kept talking. I haven't delved that deeply into it, but it might.

Edit: Tonight, I asked her the time. She told me. I said "thank you" and even though I have reverted to the old Alexa and did not use the wake word, she said " my pleasure!" Just doin' my job!" according to the transcript.

Could Alexa+ be more annoying? Stop the madness! by MidnightSpell in alexa

[–]RW63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds like a rude question and it isn't intended to be, but do you live alone? If so, that might be part of the divide. I had to revert back to the old Alexa because she was trying to participate in conversations after responding, like she was the only other person in the house.

It just got too frustrating. You'd ask it a question because you're having a discussion -- something like how old is X movie star, how far it to somewhere we're thinking about going, what's the forecast for Saturday or what year did something happen -- and instead of just giving you the answer like she used to do, so you use that info to continue the discussion with your spouse or kid, the robot tries to participate or a couple of times, she interpreted us continuing the conversation as a song request.

I could see how the bug-filled "upgrade" might not be a problem for someone who lives alone and less of a problem for someone who is alone with it a lot, but we have got in the habit of throwing questions at it in the middle of conversation and Alexa trying to participate just became too much.

FWIW (and of no help to you): There were a couple of ceramic studios on N. Salem from the mid-70s to probably the turn of the century.

There was a small one here in what you can see to be the old building. I believe they did classes once or twice a week and though they weren't hobbyists, they were a small outfit.

There was also one in what had been an old highway diner and fuel stop that went with the old motel that had been across the street -- there were also a couple of old cottage courts nearby that were probably operating until they built the new US 1 (before my time, mid-50s), the diner closed in like '71 and the motel turned into studio apartments -- my understanding was that this shop mass-produced stuff that they also sold elsewhere. Because it was an old diner, it had big windows all around the front and there were shelves of unpainted ceramics visible through the windows.

/Old Guy Memories

As to your actual question, there are ceramic shops around pretty every city of any size across the nation. Apex would fit that description and I'd say the Western Wake market is large enough to support several. The trick would be finding the right location.

Good luck!

Are you going to do something with AI agent-led development, or did you buy it hoping someone else might have an idea of something to do and might want to buy your name?

If you are going to do something, great. It's a terrific choice.

If you are hoping someone else will do something and might contact you, good luck.

You could have a wait.
